The problem also is, as I see it, that the older we get (as more mature gamers) the more we see younger people come to these types of games who have never really played before. You see a lot of line toting and different people bashing things and you just join it. It's almost like a mob mentality for some part. It just so happens that a lot of people who lead this mob are obsessed with bashing other games in some sense of loyalty. It's almost as if to play another game is to be a traitor. I've always found this to be a very strange thing but different online communities act in very different ways. Some of the games I've played have been all about loyalty to the game. Others have been more about having fun. In either case you tend to get one group who is very vocal and another group(s) that just don't want to be bothered getting into an online fight with them.

Zeetchmen has it right when he says it's like sports team fans. You have some people that like watching a sport and for some other people that team is their life, hope, and dreams. It's usually the later that are the loudest ones cheering and see other teams as enemies rather than just competitors in a game.
