So has anyone here read Martin's older sci-fi stories? I'm not a big fan of the genre but my appreciation for ASoIaF prompted me to check some of it out. I thought the stories in
A Song for Lya had the expected Martin-esque touches on them, not predictable and often depressing with some ironic humor. The book is a bound version of various independent short stories.
Another book,
Tuf Voyaging was put together from a serial of related short stories. It's violent but hilarious and based on an opportunistic space merchant named Haviland Tuf (yes, I
borrowed the name).
Both are definitely worth the time unless you just hate science fiction.
