Friend of mine told me that the store he works at had to hang on to credit card recipts for 5 yrs. Incase either the cops or the store itself wants to do a check for things. I would presume a stolen CC floating around and such.
All those little pieces of paper have to be kept somewhere. Chances are in a couple of hundred boxes stored in a room...somewhere.

Ever go to a resteraunt and paid with a CC? You hand over your card and your server comes back with something to sign. Fill in the rest yourself.

I know guys who do this. We all head out to a bar and one guy hands over his card saying "Just keep 'em coming"......again fill in the rest.
It's not so bad using an ATM card these days. The recipt you get from an ATM blocks out some of the numbers on your recipt. Heck when I call for pizza to be delivered I pay with my debit/ATM card.
