I'v always wanted to make my own mmorpg. So heres how i would do it.
First, i gotta say that i'm taking my favorite aspects from alot of games here.
The game is set in medieval times, With Squires, bowmen, and mages as the main unit types.
Anyway no matter which class you are, you start off at the same castle, Just different parts depending on your class. Anyway the leader of this castle is the King. Thats his name too "The King" And he has ordered you! Be you squire bowmen or mage, to put an end to the chaos that has been plagueing the land.
For the pve part of the game, all baddies/npcs, will be human types.
Mostly thieves and stuff. But they would be apart of some nearby village or town. And they wont just be standing around some place for no reason, they would have a life and a purpose for everything. And each would have their own name. And if they were to be killed, then a randomly generated person would be respawned in there stead, and would have a completely different purpose in life then the person they just replaced. (Imagine a pool of randomly generated names/jobs/purpose/stats/personality, The works!)
But all of them would have one thing in common, They are all thieves, whether by need or desire.
So anyway, all the npcs would be the same level, depending on what village they were apart of.
As you level up and get stronger, You'll move on to different villages and such.
However, when you level up you wont increase in stregnth all that much. To keep the game interesting. But say every 5 levels you get a bigger boost.

So anyway, each stat would work as follows
HP) Your maximum health.
Str) Your Physical Damage (1 str = 2 damage)
Vit) Your Physical Defence (2 vit = -1 damage)
Agi) Your Dodging rate (1 Agi = 2 dodge)
Dex) Your Accuracy+ Physical damage (2 dex = -1 dodge)(3 dex = 1str)
Int) Your Magic Damage (1 Int = 1 Magic damage)
Ment) Your magic Defence (1 Ment = -1 Magic damage)
So naturally If you were a mage your Int would increase more then anything else. ( And there is no MP ) you have no limit on your magic. Just time in which it takes to cast different spells. Also there is no healing class in the game, but each class would have its own ability to heal a little.
Ok now, for the end game pve content. You would face off against rogue squires, bowmen, mages, Even against Knights. They would have their own Castle and there goal is to spread chaos where ever they go. Knights would be like the elite class, however they wouldnt be that much stronger then a normal class. But it would be noticeably stronger. And carry slightly better items. So anyway, These castles would be huge, and i mean really big. Here is how they would work.
First of all, in order to start your raid/seige of the castle, you will need to have at least 50 people click on the sign outside of the castle, and say that they wish to raid the castle. Once 50 people have done this, the raid will begin. The NPC's will ready themselves as soon as you step beyond the front gates. Now you cant enter the castle unless you clicked on the sign and said you want to raid the castle. However, you can join in the raid at any time as long as its still going on.
Your goal, is to kill the Knight Captain. However, you cant simply just find him and kill him. Cause there will be tons of NPC's around, bowmen, squires,mages
who you will have to battle through, in order to reach the knight captain who waits at the very top of the keep.
If you die, you will respawn outside of the castle. You just click on the "Other" sign and say i wish to resume. And you can enter again, There is no penalty for dying, and you can reenter the castle as many times as you want.
Now as soon as the raid begins, a 5 minute timer will start. Dont worry its not what you think. Anyway once the counter drops to 0 then the raid will be officially underway. And if at any time the number of people inside the castle drops below 10
Everyone will be transported outside of the castle, and the seige will be over.
And you'll have to wait 30 minutes to try again. In which all the NPC's will respawn.
Now here is what seperates this game from most. Even though you need 50 people to start the raid, you dont need to be organized or anything and you dont even need to be in a party. You just need alot of people. The more people the easier it will be to kill the Knight Captain. They dont even have to be apart of your guild. They can just be there to kill the Knight Captain. Once you kill the Knight captain Everyone who participated in the raid by clicking on the sign and saying i want to raid, Will be given a medal. (Sound familiar it should)
Anyway the Medals you earn arent actually something you see. Instead its more like recognition for being apart of a raid that took down a Knight Captain. And once you collect a certain number. You go to visit "The King"
And he will then recognize you as a nobleman, or noblewoman! :P
In which you will restart at level 1, but you will be your upper class.
And you'll gain more stats each time you level up.
Squire-->Swordsman. Bowmen-->Archer Mage-->Wizard
(Bob the Swordsman, at level 5)
Bob lvl (5) HP: 90
Str: 33
Vit: 30
Agi: 22
Dex: 29
Int: 12
Ment: 29
So anyway, once you level up your guy again to the max level, Say (50)
You would do it all over again, Only you would be your top class.
Swordsman-->Knight Archer-->Marksman Wizard-->High-Wizard.
Once you've achieved this the only thing left to do, really is to pvp. Which would bring me to the pvp aspect of the game. First i want to say, that you can pvp anywhere anytime by turning on your PK button, If you attack another player, Their PK button will turn on as well. Now, if you kill another player, you are in big trouble. The King will send out his knights to kill you. And each time you are killed by the Kings knights, you will lose 10% of your stats for a set amount of time. So while you can pk anytime, it is forbidden to do so under penalty of death.
There is however a land where The King has no rule over. And pvp is as open as can be. Think of it like the way the pve part works. Only instead of players getting there own castles. They get smaller wooden fortress's Which they must build themselves. Well, them and there guild.
This whole area will be an instance, but it will also be a seperate part of the world. It will be on the very center island of the world. Which is seperated by water. And the only way to get there is by boat. This part of the world is very rich in minerals and metals such as steel, and precious gems. But pvp isnt the only thing taking place on this island. Its also the home of a trade city that is ran by the "Dark Knights" Its this city where you can buy and sell items, and equipment. resources and what not. That can only be found on this island.
The thing is, you cannot take any of the items, equipment or resources off of this island. At least, thats the rules the Dark Knights have set. If you do try to leave the island with any of the items, the Dark Knights will try to stop you. The Dark Knights are about as strong as a lvl (55) Top class NPC. So taking them on is not very wise. However if you do manage to escape the island with the items or gear, you will be constantly hunted by the Dark Knights until you return to the island with the items. In addition, The King will send out his knights as well, as these types of weapons are banned from his Kingdom. For they are only used in killing other players. And the Dark Knights, not wanting war with The King and his knights, Agree'd to not allow anything from their part of the world over into the kings Kingdom.
Anyway, as i just mentioned the items, equipment and resources on this island are used for pvping, Killing other players. While you can use your regular equipment, the special equipment on this island are much more efficient against other players. You can forge weapons that can ignore some of a players defence, or even pierce through it entierly. So you can see why The King has banned them from his lands.
Ok so anyway, Guilds can build their own forts. And they will need to set up equipment to harvest any nearby resources. And other players can try to take it from them. Anytime, anyday whenever they feel like it.
So once you have your fort set up and you have harvested some resources. Say your fort gets invaded and destroyed by a angry band of players. Well its not a total loss, for you keep all the resources you've collected. You can go and maybe forge some better weapons, with the resources you've gathered, And return to reclaim your territory.
And thats how i would make an MMOrpg.
