Hopefully someone will pick it up. It has a more low fantasy and deadlier rule system in place that makes you actually have to be careful even when fighting common foes.

I talked to my local vendor in town and he said the book sells better now than it did when it was in print!

I've found this series extremely depressing so far, especially since book four did not really touch on my favorite character (thank god he is still alive, but I'm thinking based on the prophecy and what not that Martin can't kill him *crossing fingers*). I mean everyone, everyone dies.

Seriously, the books are almost morbid in the manner in which all the characters in some manner face some utterly tragic event in their lives. I do have to admit though, I love the books and even though the last one didn't really contain any of my favorites, I trudged through it rather quickly.

But yah, this is a great series, and I'm not sure when if ever Jordan will ever finish his series considering his condition. Here's to hoping he gets better.

I like the fact that George isn't afraid to kill off his characters. It free's up space for new ones, leaves you guessing what could happen to any of them, etc. If an author never kills one off.. it's almost predictable. Alot of times George killed off his characters in a way that I just didn't really expect him too, sort of teaches the reader that in George's books.. life is a fragile thing.

I think that is exactly why he does it the way he does.

That and it allows you to keep the hope that characters he "kills" may not really be dead because they happened as "hear-say", in another characters chapters.

George RR Martin

The song of Ice and Fire series has ruined me on other fantasy authors. If it's not Martin it just seems. . .lacking. As a warning it is not for the faint of heart, its insanely dark stuff. Insest, rape, murder(even little kids), he doesn't down play the times for family ratings and the story is steeped in political awesomeness. If you ever wanted a grown up fantasy story that doesn't pull punches, read it.

That's how I felt about Glen Cook's 'The Black Company' until I read the Ice and Fire stuff. The last book, A Feast For Crows wasn't as satisfying for me. Reading his site, Martin seems to be having trouble pulling the threads together and the story is starting to meander. He's so busy with conventions and other projects that this series appears to have taken a back seat. I read his blog occasionally but it's mostly a rundown of his appearances, promoting peripheral swag, sports and political rants. I hope he's enjoying his success but damn if I don't want him to write more of these books!

He's doing so many different things.. I doubt it will be out any time soon. On the bright side.. I did hear that HBO or whoever that was is doing a Westeros tv show.. I think it's 1 book per season. I'm not sure where that is currently standing.. maybe dumped.. maybe in production, who knows.
