Back when I was in high school this was a required book to read so naturally...I didn't read it *funny story, I told the teacher that I wasn't going to read it and I made the highest test scores in the class* BUT since then I've read it and it's a great book. I also enjoy Equilibrium for the movie-esq 1984 feeling.

if it was called 1983, I would be tempted to read it *points to his birth year*

Isnt the reason its called 1984 is because George Orwell wrote it in 1948 and decided to just switch the numbers? (not sure thought I heard this one)

QFT, required reading really ruins a good novel (or beats a bad one into your head until you suffer from massive concussions). Am I the only one that had ever wondered if all those dozen or so themes for A Seperate Peace were actually INTENTIONALLY put in there by the author?

Anyway...

I've never finished 1984. I've tried to read it twice but grow bored about a third of the way in. I know it has a good point and a great ending but it just seemed really dull and hoaky to me.

P.S. What kind of idiots were in your class? Haha :P

I prefer Brave New World personally, not that there is anything wrong with 1984, but it’s just a preference in dystopia.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of it. Then again, I didn't care for Brave New World either; however, they both have fantastic meanings.
