BattleTech/Mechwarrior Books
Anyone ever read the BattleTech series?
I recently picked up the newest line of books (Mechwarrior: Dark Age), and I have to say I have been really enjoying them. If you couldn't guess by the name, it is a sci-fi setting 1000+ years in the future. The stories mostly take place within the back drop of interplanetary war fought with giant robots... no, it is not asian ![]() I have found them to be quick, fun and easy reads. I also like how the format allows for the series to stretch over 30+ books without suffering from the staleness that many large series suffer from. They are one of those series where-in multiple authors, create there own and continue with others stories & characters, writing withing the framework of a persistent universe; not unlike the StarWars books, AoC novels, or Shadowrun and Dungeon & Dragons series. If liked any of those series i just mentioned, you should give BattleTech a try. Here is a Link with a list of novels in the series... your local library should carry a few and you don't have to read them in order, though it is preferable if you can. |

They had a whole series of Battletech (Mechwarrior) based games. Played em for years, pretty fun online community till it died 4 years ago. Purely PvP based games which should be the only use for online gaming imo
. Black Knight 4 life . |

I really had no idea there were Battletech books. I might try and pick one up once I finish the warhammer novels I started. |

I've read a few, they were well written but I didn't know enough about the lore to really appreciate them. I've played some mechwarrior in my day, though.

I think there are a few crappy asian Mech MMOs, but a mech game done right is something I would definitely like to play. |

A mech game has such an open ended area an MMO of that genre could do a ton of different things. RF online had sort of a mech element but I could never get into it far enough to actually get the mech heh. |

I fell out of them after a few of the Clan War books. I did like some of the stuff with the Inner Sphere, but I felt that the books were not written well enough and all kinda started to blend together as the same book. Kinda got the same feeling from most really early 40k novels. That has been fixed in recent years though with Dan Abnet.
It's not bad scifi, but you really have to be geeked about Battletech to really like them. |
