The Dark Tower

Anyone else read this Stephen King series? Thoughts?

Just started the first book actually. First thing of his I've read and only picked it up because I needed something at work and it was lying in the house, but it's interesting so far. I didn't know there were like 10 books

I'll let you know what I think once I finish the first.

I tried to read the first one, being a fan of fantasy books I thought this might be worth reading, but alas, not for my taste.

I couldnt get over the fact that it was a fantasy series set in the wild west?!? What the heck is that about? I suppose if i'd been a fan of westerns and fantasy books then maybe...

I read all of them from Wizard and Glass and up. Pretty good. I didn't like how quick some of the battles were though... You'd spend the majority of the book waiting for the fight, and then it'd be over in 10 pages haha. I didn't understand the ending of the last book either... But i won't spoil it for those of you that are still reading.

That's the appealing thing for me... I'm so tired of High Fantasy right now. Don't know if I can go back to that crap for a WHILE.

and I kind of agree on the action scenes, even already. The scene with all the people of Tull early on was awesome, and the details were really well written, but it did kind of fly by. I too like longer action scenes. (btw, all I could think of was Resident Evil 4... I wonder if they got some inspiration from this book?)

Still an awesome book so far though. Really growing to like it.

I read the whole series and liked it a lot. It's pretty different. Kind of like an alternate version of Earth sliding into decay.

I'm not sure I liked the ending of the series, though. Some liked it. Some didn't.

A little gritty for my tastes, but once I shed my preconceptions and expectations, a very entertaining book. Just...different.
