The Orc King - R.A. Salvatore

I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the series and/or Salvatore's writing. I just find it astounding how well he can describe a battle between two people. I can actually picture the fight taking place in front of me. Two thumbs way up. And yes, I read it all in one night

Is it a Drizzt tale or does it have totally unrelated characters?

It is the first in his new trilogy, and yes it features Drizzt. The other characters are there as well, Cattie-Brie, Wulfgar, Bruenor, etc... Believe Transitions is the name of the new trilogy, with book II coming out next Oct (2008) and the third the following October (2009).

I see. I guess he's going with his cash cow and milking it for all it's worth. Personally, I'd like to see him write about someone else. There are too many Drizzt worshippers as it is. That's all we need for WAR is a million fanboys out there rolling DEs with different spellings of "Drizzt."

I can guarantee even if this hadn't come out that would happen. Part of the reason I'm not rolling a DE, imo there are going to be entirely too many. That and all the elves with different spellings of Legolas, etc...

True, but a new Drizzt book will only make it worse. At least with the HE fanboys who use "Legolas" or some form thereof, we can kill them.

Could be worse, at least there isn't a new Dragonlance book out. If I see one more variation of Raistlin for a mage I'm gonna scream.

I haven't seen that many versions of Raistlin. The all-time worst one though is obviously Legolas because the only fantasy reference all the little 12-year-olds have is LotR, and they don't have the patience to sit for a few minutes and think up something that's halfway good. It just aggravates me that people cannot come up with their own damn names; it's not that hard to make one that's decent, just sit for a minute or two and use your imagination. ... *sigh*
