Recommend me a mystery

I am NOT a huge fan of hardcore mystery. I was reluctantly forced to read one of Carl Hiaasen's novels in a fiction class a few years ago and I loved them. Since then I have devoured all his books.

So somebody who knows a lot about mystery novels, please recommend me something similar to Hiaasen's style (incredibly outlandish characters, over-the-top plot devices). I was told I might like Tim Cockey's "Hearse" mysteries. Anything else?
