American Psycho

I find not many people have actually read the book, it is actually good I think(if you can make it through the chapters of him rambling about music). Was just wondering if any of you fellas have read it, and what do you think? I usually get mixed reviews from everyone.

I read it some years back. I saw the author on a late night talk show, talking about how some religious organizations were trying to ban the book. I read it on the principal that if someone doesn't want me to read something I probably would want to read it.

Now I read it a long time ago mid 90's and as I remember the fits 100 pages went by slow for me as Bateman (the main character) would described in detail what what everyone he meat was wearing, then he kill a bum on the street and things pick up. There was some really gruesomely detailed scenes. The book is not for the faint of hart.

I found it to be a different read, not bad I liked it enough, now that you've got me thinking about it again I may put it on my to read list. I usually read science fiction or fantasy, but I have been known to stray to other genres. As I recall there wasn't to much of a plot it was just a bunch of murder and mayhem. I do remember thinking that Bret Easton Ellis musta been one head case to have written such a insane story.

I personally loved this book. It was a really interesting read, it answered a bunch of questions tha I had after watching the movie, and added a few new ones. In particular I love the excruciating detail in which he described everything, the clothing, the food. awesome read. tad bit disturbing though.

K, so he was obviously crazy, but in the end did you end up with the impression that he had commited the crimes or that it was all in his head?

I read it but there were points where he just got carried away like he was just trying to think up various grotesqueries to shock the reader for the sake of shocking the reader. Overall an interesting book where the excesses are actually the point - both in the content and in the writing. Or so I felt I was left to presume.

I read the book a few years ago after a friend had recommended it before the movie came out. The author definitely has some talent, but the book was a little too excessive for my tastes. I never really had the desire to see the movie after that.
