This is the new Orson Scott Card series. The only book out in the series right now is empire. It is about the second civil war in the US. It is an awesome book. Partly because it is very very believable. If you haven't read Ender's Saga and Shadow series you should really get to know what a great writer Orson Scott Card is and pick up this book

I really like Card's writing. Will give this a shot if I can find a way to read it without buying. I am a little poor atm.

I read it and was not impressed but it was still entertaining. It may seem feasable for such an event to happen but not in the US. No president ever has upset the "balance" or even has come remotely close. As long as they spend hundreds of billions of $ on military, catering to the lobbyists and running the same tired old campaigns, not much will change.
however I can imagine the white house getting blown up.
