The Hobbit / Dune

The Hobbit if my number one book I have read of all time. The rest of the series did not keep my attention.

The next would be Dune, I started to read the next book but, it is after all summer, who reads in the summer (no offense to those summer readers out there).

I tried watching the movie to Dune, and it completely ruined my image, so I stopped about 15 minutes in.

The Hobbit is an interesting read. While it tends to exhibit itself as a children's fairytale (in comparison to the rest of the LOTR series), it serves as an excellent introduction to that world.

As for Dune? Great book. The author is even more fantastic. Too bad that contemporary Dune books don't live up to the standard. And you'd have to be more specific as to which Dune movie you didn't like, as there were two: a theatrical release and one made by the SciFi channel. :P

Oh, I did not know there was two versions. I think the theatrical version, made in 1984.

the movies were ok... the original was only about 2 hours or so and barely even touches on the real book...

the scifi mini-series was about 8 hours or so and gets a little better...

both pale in comparison to the book...

the spice melange...

frank herbert is the author if anyone is interested in getting the books... great scifi

Sadly, I have yet to read the books. As a kid, the first time I saw the Dune series was with "Dune II" on DoS. Dune II was the first RTS game I had ever played and it was great. Having ones harvesters eaten by sand worms was so damn annoying though. Sorry about the thread derailment.

P.S. the Dune movies were still quite entertaining. The Baron was so... ugh.

Yea my thoughts exactly, I had read the book before just before i watched the movie and unless you've actually read the books the movie is just retarded and even then its meh, though the mind crushing detail of the dune universe, its politics and subterfuge would take a really really long trillogy of movies atleast to explain well.
