Add Gender to our profile?

On my vbulletin test site (where I conduct hideous vbulletin experiments and modifications) I have added a gender field. It's not really an important or vital modification, but I could easily add it to our forums here. Basically, under your avatar picture to the left of your message area when you make a post, where the location and post count are, there would also be a gender field. It would display something like...



Like I said, it's nothing big or anything lol... just wondering if this would be a nice feature or not. Also perhaps correct some confusion towards people where they don't know if they are male or female by viewing their name only (not like it's important, but sometimes it's nice to not wonder lol). edit: Because in the past sometimes people don't know if they should say "she said" instead of "he said", for example.

I don't know if it's necessary. I know I've whined a bit but oh well it's not really a big deal in the end. Mainly vent's fault probably since I've never had that problem before like I've stated. Some people also thought I think for whatever reason that I was lying about my sex oh well... I don't think that solution is going to fix anything if people start doubting the girls tell the truth about that. Hell I hate lying. Sometimes I may hide the truth for the best but I try to not lie I'm not good at it and I hate myself every time I do lie. In my head, it's tell the truth or don't tell anything.

Only time I don't feel bad about lying is when it's evident like for example: I'm a Marsian.

When I doubt the sex of someone I just use their forum name... fixes the problem of mixing wrongly he/she for me.

Anyway, add it if you want to add it.

I suppose it would be alright to have but I don't think it's really a pivotal thing to have. In most cases I'd rather not know the gender because I don't like it to make a difference in my opinion. I admit I tend to have a gender bias of a sort (as I suspect most people do) and I don't like to let it play into matters when I can help it.

I agree with interfector... in which I would rather not have to vary my opinion because the topic came from a female or a male...I ultimately dont mind

On another note, it is an "optional" thing to select. You can either choose male, female, or nothing.. which displays nothing. I believe the default is set to nothing.. so it would only be there if you want to select it.

I could go either way, I don't mind having it and I don't mind not having it. Just tossing it out there as an option to have.

I wouldn't mind it being there. We're (or I'm) trying to get to know who's who, what with the personal chats, pictures and what not. I think an optional gender field wouldn't be such a bad thing.

And like you said, if you don't want to display it, you won't have to.
