Jargon & Abbreviations

  1. 10x - Thanks
  2. <3 – Represents a heart; love
  3. 2 – To
  4. 4 – For
  5. addon - extra mob(s) joining their friends against you.
  6. AFAIK – As far as I know
  7. AFK – Away from keyboard
  8. Aggro – Aggressive or aggression
  9. Alt – Alternate character
  10. AoE – Area of Effect
  11. Assist – To attack the target of a specific teammate.
  12. BB - bye bye - goodbye
  13. BBL – Be back later
  14. BF - Boyfriend
  15. Bio – Bathroom break
  16. Bio Break – Bathroom break
  17. BRB – Be right back
  18. BRT – Be right there
  19. BTW – By the way
  20. Buff – a power, inspiration, or enhancement that increases the abilities of a character
  21. Burn – To dump a lot of damage into an opponent in order to defeat it quickly
  22. CC – Crowd control (immobilizing, holding, sleeping extra enemies)
  23. Con – To consider
  24. Cons – To consider
  25. Crit - Critical hit
  26. Debuff – A power, inspiration, or enhancement that decreases the abilities of an opponent.
  27. Ding – (Mostly from EQ players) Indicates that a character has leveled
  28. d/c or d/ced or dc'ed or dced - person in question got disconnected from game server, unintentionally.
  29. Disc – A request, meaning, “Was disconnected, please invite to team again”
  30. DoT – Damage over time
  31. DPS – Damage per second; may refer to players with that as their primary ability
  32. Exp – Experience
  33. FFS – For f**k’s sake
  34. Flame – To insult someone in a harsh manner
  35. FOTM - Flavor of the month - meaning one particular archetype/class that is played the most during that month or that one archetype/class that people are making the most during that month.
  36. FOTW - Flavor of the week. Same as FOTM.
  37. FTW - For The Win
  38. FWIW - For what it's worth
  39. FYI - For your information
  40. G2G – Got to go OR Good to go
  41. GF – Girlfriend
  42. GM – Game Master
  43. Grats – Congratulations (usually on leveling)
  44. Gratz – Congratulations (usually on leveling)
  45. Griefer – A player who seems to derive enjoyment from lowering the enjoyment of others.
  46. GTG – Got to go OR Good to go
  47. GTT – Going to Trainer
  48. H8 – Hate
  49. H9 – Uncommon; used to represent a stronger form of hatred than that represented by h8.
  50. HDMALITD – How does my a$$ look in this dress?
  51. Hold aggro – Keeping the focus of an opponent on yourself and away from your teammates
  52. HoT - Heal Over Time
  53. HUD – Heads up display
  54. IDK – I Don’t Know
  55. IIRC – If I recall correctly
  56. IMHO – In my humble opinion
  57. IMO – In my opinion
  58. Inc! – Incoming monsters
  59. INV – A request, meaning, “Please invite me to join your team”
  60. IYKWIM - If you know what I mean
  61. IYKWIMAITYD - If you know what I mean, and I think you do
  62. j00 – Pronounced “Jew”, but not meant as a racial slur or derogatory comment; commonly used in place of “you.”
  63. KS - Kill Steal
  64. Kill Steal – To defeat an opponent that was engaged by another player, without first obtaining that player’s permission.
  65. Kite – To run around holding the attention of a mob by staying out of melee range and using ranged attacks.
  66. KK = OK
  67. L33T – Elite - The common term for the abbreviation and butchering of the English language by a vast majority of on-line gamers. l33t uses many numbers and symbols in it and commonly replaces the letter s with the letter z.
  68. Lewtz – Loot or in game items that are considered nice.
  69. LFG - Looking for group (same as LFT)
  70. LFT – Looking for team (same as LFG)
  71. LIFC – Like I f**king care
  72. Lock – Any action that prevents an NPC from being able to do anything, including attack.
  73. Lock Down – See Lock.
  74. LOL – Laughing out loud
  75. Lt – Lieutenant
  76. LVL – Level
  77. Main – A player's primary character; that is, the character the player plays most of the time. Almost always the highest level character on an account.
  78. Min-Maxing - When people are tweaking and optimizing their character to maximum, to extreme levels
  79. Mish – Mission
  80. MMORPG – Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game)
  81. Mob – An NPC, short for “mobile object”
  82. N00B – Someone who is annoying, stupid, or refuses to learn
  83. Nerf - To tweak something in the game to make it less effective. (Usually this is done to balance things out. Not alway, but usually it makes matters worse than they were)
  84. Newb – Same as n00b
  85. Newbie – Someone new to the game
  86. NFI – No f**king idea
  87. NP – No problem
  88. NPC – Non Playable Character/Non Player Character
  89. Nuke – Damage ability
  90. OMG - Oh my god
  91. OMW – On my way
  92. OOM – Out of Mana
  93. OOR - Out of Range
  94. OTW - On the way
  95. Own – To lay waste to an enemy or having your butt kicked.
  96. PBAE – Point blank area effect
  97. PBAoE – Point blank area of effect
  98. PC – Player character
  99. Ph4t – phat, a commonly used term in hip-hop meaning nice or cool.
  100. Phuque – Sexual intercourse
  101. PK – Player killer
  102. PL – Power Level. To level as quickly as possible, with outside assistance.
  103. Plz – Please
  104. PPL – People
  105. PST - Please send a tell - when somebody wants you to send them private msg/whisper/tell.
  106. PUG - Pick-up Group
  107. Pull – To hit a specific opponent, from distance, in order to begin combat with either just it, or it and a group of opponents near it.
  108. PvE – Player versus environment (NPC)
  109. PvP – Player versus player
  110. Pwn – To own strongly (see own)
  111. QFT - Quoted For Truth (used on forums generally), Quiet Frankly True
  112. QFE - Quoted For Effect
  113. RAWR – Look at me/us kick a$$
  114. Rez – To resurrect or revive a player
  115. rgr – Roger
  116. RL – Real life, as in, the life you live in the real world.
  117. ROFL – Rolling on the floor laughing
  118. ROFLMAO – Rolling on the floor laughing my a$$ off
  119. ROFLMAOWCSFMN = rolling on the floor laughing my a$$ off with coke spewing from my nose
  120. ROFLMFAO = rolling on the floor laughing my f**king a$$ off
  121. Root – To immobilize an opponent
  122. RTFM - Read the f**king manual
  123. RTM - Read the manual
  124. Runner – An NPC that (for whatever reason) bolts from the group; runners tend to fetch help.
  125. Snare – To lower the run speed of an opponent
  126. SnD – Seek & destroy; for those missions where the PC must find and defeat x of a specific type of NPC.
  127. SoL – Sh*t out of luck
  128. STFU – Shut the phuque up
  129. Tank – To engage in hand-to-hand combat in a manner designed to keep the attention of the enemies on yourself, rather than on weaker teammates.

  133. Train – A group of NPCs in pursuit of a single PC.
  134. Twink – An alternate character, particularly one given assistance from a higher level friend.

  139. w8 - wait
  140. WTB - Want to buy
  141. WTF – WHAT the f**k?
  142. WTG – Way to go!.
  143. WTH - WHAT the hell.
  144. WTS - Want to sell
  145. WTT - Want to trade.
  146. XP – Experience
  147. YMMV - Your mileage may vary
  148. ZOMG - same as OMG
  149. Zone – A specific area within the game
  150. Zone line – Area where you exit the current part of town to enter another
  151. Zone! – Yelling this during combat means to flee to the nearest zone line or, in the case of indoor missions, to run out the door.
  152. Zoning – The process of moving from one zone to another

I have always used G2G and GTG as "got to go".

For "Good to go" I've always used "rdy" (i.e., "ready"). But that's just me.

true, same here actually, when I think about it, i use gtg a lot before leaving. Thanks, added that as well.
