Mage Archetype: Lich/Herald

I sat in contemplation for a while about these classes. I was under the impression that since I'm so intrigued by them that other people would be just as well. My main question is, do you guys feel as if this class will be over-played, chosen by many?

I love the idea of a melee mage as it seems to be the ultimate hybrid of classes, but really, most of the classes in AoC are hybrids, are they not?

Perhaps I'll have make a backup class just incase.

Hehe, i dont really wanna disappoint ya. But they seem to be tied for 2nd most played class.
Well thats only according to the polls on the AoC forums.
But i wouldnt let that discourage you. If you really wanna play it than go for it :P

I want more information on the mage classes overall and the feats then i'll make my decision. Right now I'm really up in the air on all of the mage classes, I'd personally prefer a more traditional caster than a pet class/melee mage.

For some strange reason the mage classes are very popular with this game. Lots of people rolling mages or so it seems.

You would think in a dark brutal game based on Conan that mages wouldnt be so popular but they are.

Well the priests oddly enough are looking at more DD spells than pet/melee mages. Like the Druid of the Storm... They are shaping out to be upfront DPS rather than just healer/caster. That might be what you're after.

Oy, yea it sure does seem like that a bit. I've had healer types in pretty much every MMO I've ever played. One problem I have is that I really don't want to be a Cimmerian. I've pretty much decided on Stygian, which leave Scion of Set, but that sounds more like a DoT type caster...much like the Shaman in DAoC. I've been there done that and it sucked. Like I said, I'd really like some more information, examples of paths you can take, feats etc before I make a final decision. Right now I'm looking at Necromancer primarily.

i thought that stormcaller had stygian and aquilonian, and druid had aquilonian and cimerian, so i think that you could be druid of the storm

Even if any one class is considered the most popular now it doesn't neccesarily mean anything. We don't know any details about how any of the classes will be played. So far it seems like we know the names of the classes and a very vauge idea of what their abilities might be. I want to be an assassin but I'm basing that on what I think the gameplay for that class might be. It very well could be completely different in which I would choose another class.

It's driving me and I'm sure many others crazy not knowing more details about the classes and abilities. I can't wait until they release more details so we can have great conversations like these and actually have some meat behind them. Anyway I don't mean to ruin the conversation by being a downer....

im waiting for more info on conq/lich/herald of Xotli. Even Bear shaman looks interesting to me.

I was thinking the same actually... will have a mage alt for sure though - i'm keeping an eye open for how the group magic system works out for sieges etc. could be pretty cool.
