"They are of such exquisite detail and so beautiful that we thought there must be a message here," he told Reuters.
Maybe....its just a very artistic carving? Ever think of that one smart guy .

Technically, there could be some truth to this one... I don't think it's related to all this 'code' crap, but alone it is interesting IMO
If you were to take a flat piece metal (like a square for example) and pour sand in a thin layer over the top of it, then take something like a violin bow and steadily draw it across the edge to produce a note then effectively you are making the metal vibrate, which depending on the size/shape etc.. of the metal will produce a particular frequency (or note, since notes are specific frequencies). Anyway, what happends is that the vibrations on the metal start to interect (same as if you put your finger into a bowl of water, the ripples spread out from the source and then bounce back from the edge and create an interference pattern), the sand will form into specific, repeatable patterns. You could say that each frequency has a pattern associated with it - i've seen some of these carvings, and they look remarkably similar. That could all be just chance, but when i think about it - If i were to capture music in some way (pre-recording) and make sure it would always be understood, regardless of language, or musical convention, i'd say that recording thses signature patterns would be the perfect way... Kinda like writing mathmatical messages on the craft we send into space. The patterens are effectively a result of physics, so don't change. THats kinda how it works anyway... i gots a hangover this morning

Not every race in the universe is going to use Arabic Numerals or even have Greeks to use symbols from. As for it being a matter of physics, how do we know our current information is correct? It's possible that there's no actual way to define physics and that our idea of it is misconstrued, or a certain way of understanding it. When babies are born it's impossible for them to organize what they see with their eyes into cohesive images, same thing for sound, feeling etc. Is it possible we're merely a video game or computer simulation that we could never dream of? It's possible there's a species SO advanced, that they can create out of nothing, and we're merely stored, progressing, information for some higher alien species to experience. Music on the other hand...is a series of sounds. It's possible an alien species might not be able to hear certain frequencies because of their phisiology, but using our planet as an example, most alien species' would be able to hear a large spectrum of the sounds. Sorry for the long, philosophical post. |

I am putting this forward merely as a reasonable method for 'recording' tonal information, I don't think there's some biblical conspiracy going on, nor do think that some beardy-wierdy is able to construct music from a series of these patterns, since there is a lot more information required to interpret music - how do they know the timings of the notes? or even where to start from... you can have a go though. It's entirely possible that we all exist as a simulation in some computer somewhere, its also possible that things are just as they seem.
