As for TurQ's problem, I guess there's no "missing dollar". The problem tricks you into thinking that. The correct reasoning follows:

1. Each payed $30 (this is all the money that "exists" in the problem)
2. The room cost was only $25 (so $25 into the owner's pocket and $5 for change)
3. They only get $3 back so, each got $1 back for a total cost of $27
4. The missing $2 (they should have got) is in the intern's pocket

So $27 MINUS $2 = $25 (which is what they payed for the room).

Actually, thats absolutely right. Nice job, it took me about 4 hours to think of the solution when I first heard it about 5 years ago.

I've had heard this problem before when I was in school.

I always thought that the answer I gave here was the correct one, but there was nobody to say: "yes, you are right". So thanks relieving me from this burden.
