Challenged Books
I thought this story was a bit interesting
Penguin tale tops list of `challenged' books - Yahoo! News Basicly for those who dont wanna read it its basicly talking about books that have had complaints sent in for content that seems inappropriate for schools. And wanted to see what you all thought about this issue. Imo i think some books shouldnt be in schools under high school. But once kids reach the point of 9th grade (H.S. Freshman) it shouldnt be an issue, but im sure there would be parents out there who say otherwise. We're reading Huck Fin in my English class and honestly i love it and dont think students shouldnt read it at one point or another.

A book at the top such as that one is there due more to fear than content. By high school I do agree that you can read just about anything and it shouldn't be an issue. I remember in English class reading a book about Vietnam and it was rather gory. However violence in American Society is ok as long as there is no sex

For anyone who's interested, the American Library Association has compiled a list of the most frequently challenged books. It's a little outdated, from 1990-2000, but it's still worth a read.
Choice picks on the list include the Scary Stories series, the Goosebumps series, To Kill a Mockingbird, James and the Giant Peach, and the Where's Waldo series. The full list is here.

I have never been a fan of any form of censorship - and I personally find it offensive that people lash out at homosexuals so blatantly. Out of all the cultures I have experienced in my time on Earth I can honestly say the homosexual community has been one that I have never had a problem with in the slightest. I'm not personally homosexual but all the homosexuals I have met so far tended to be better educated than most and for the most part pretty interesting people. Given all the strife religions have caused on Earth I think that they are burning the wrong books. Just my opinion, offered in the light that it's usually a religious base people hide behind when attacking the gay community.
