A Career in Computers

Hey guys, im still in high school and i want to pursue a career with computers/video game designing, and what i need to know is what classes should i take if i want to get a job like working for Blizzard, Mythic, ect. What colleges out there can i go to? I was wondering if anyone had some advice on the subject.

Computer science asap!
Becoming a game designer isn't a job you just fall into, you need to work your way up the totem poll one way or another
Whether you go the art route or programming route there is no guarantee you will ever get your shot at designing but if that is your ultimate goal... I recommend you take any classes that will help with that broad level of creativity

But your basically going to spend about half your college classes every semester on calculus and learning a computer language... Have fun

Computer Science or Creative Design.

Both your best shots are getting to that place, ones computers and ones art but if you can pull of both then you will pretty much get a job anywhere in the entertainment industry.

Computer science if you want to do the coding behind the game, or an A&S Degree in computer drafting/design (some sort of A/S degree) if you want to design the models and worlds. But like showtime said, don't go to college, get done, and expect to just jump into blizzard or mythic. Twisted's brother graduated at the very top of his graduating class (suma cum loude) in BOTH CS and Math. It took him half a year to get an internship at a spinn off company from bungie (they made a game called "hail to the chimp" and now he just got a job at Heavy Iron that made the Wall-E game. However, he wants to code, but neither company would let him do that yet. Had to earn that, so he's doing testing and stuff for them now.

I think it's easier getting into the video game field if your proficient at art, design, 3D modeling, etc. Reason? Because you can toss up a website and show all your work saying "this is what I can do" or "this is how I would design the game" right off the bat. Coding, unless your building your own games, you pretty much will start off at the bottom of the barrel imo.

Ya, you pretty much have to go into the interview with a laptop and show them what you have coded so far. I learned that at my game programming class at Warren Tech, and I have already made a couple of low level games but I'm working at it.

Yep. Twisted's brother had to code some things as a test for Arena Net. They came back to him and said his code wasn't optimized and clean enough enough. (again, top of class in CS).
