Excited about some sequals, loathe others... Whats YOUR opinion?

Alright.. so I placed this in MMORPG general, but I might as well have placed it in other games...

Anyways... I'm trying to think about what motivates software developers to go so far above the original concept to potentially upset and disappoint fans.

Now, all sequels will have some fans, and some anti-fans.. (couldnt think of a better english word)

Two games I will mention that illustrates this:

Diablo 3 - Now here is a sequel that in my mind stays true to the original concept, but still improves vastly... and I seriously cant wait for this game...

Fallout 3... now, in my opinion - this has NOTHING to do with fallout as a game. Sure, it uses some of the same terms, structure and storyline... and being post-apocalyptic and all, sure it might make sense to call it Fallout 3 (And yes... I _WILL_ end up buying it).. but I'm so disappointed they abandoned the original graphical concept. They could have used the same concept diablo3 did game-engine wise and delivered one HELL of a game.. but instead they reuse the oblivion engine... PFFFFFT!!!!

Whats your thoughts?

If you aren't feeling so hot about your current engine, you can always use another.
And the Oblivion engine is a great one to use.
I'm personally extremely excited about this game as well as Diablo 3.
Sometimes change is good. Other times, it's not.
The developers make the final decision and, like you said, you're still going to buy it, so I think their decision was a good one.
