Ageia PhysX in AoC REPOST from AoC Forum

I recently learned about the emerging Physics Processing Unit available from Ageia. It handles the math associated with the physics computations when things move, explode, particle effects, cloth blowing in the wind ect..

check it out at www.ageia.com some of the demos they have for upcoming games are nothing short of amazing.

It makes quite a difference in a game like Ghost Recon AW that takes full advantage of the Ageia Physics engine.

Seeing how this game has highly animated characters and lots of particle affects and blod spray, are there any plans to use Ageia PhysX with AoC?

Has anyone read anything on that subject form the devs?

Looks like only Vanguards, WAR, and COV are optimized for it. At the moment, I don't think it's worth the money for the card until more games are optimized for it IMO. But yeah, the videos of the card in action make it really appealing.

Awww thats too bad that AoC isnt using it. But they could probably add it in a future patch i guess. Looks like CoV added it in a patch so it can be done.

I just hope that FC will do so cause i am buying one for Cellfactor when it ships/. That game looks nothing short of amazing.

Yeah more gamer specific hardware. I wish I had the money for all this stuff. Seems to me that some day you wont have enough card spots, and they're gonna have to build computers with two motherboards, your standard motherboard and a "gamer's motherboard" that is kinda like one big "supercard" with it's own CPU. Maybe stick them on either side of the case, fill the hardware on rails in the middle. Either that or shrink the manufacturing process for motherboards, and you buy a motherboard that has 2 seperate CPUs, your sound, graphics, physics, raid all on board with thier own processing units but runnning completely seperately from the main CPU, running from a main "gamer CPU". I don't know,it's probably a better business model to sell the daughterboards seperate, but there's only so much space.

I think it's an interesting piece of hardware. GRAW is ok as a physics demo, but the game they should promote more as their flagship is Cell Factor:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/ce...=cell%20factor

Looks like it could be so much fun. Online multiplay, 2 on 2 anyone?

Anyways, I don't think AoC even has a physics system, so how would Ageia be involved? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I remember this topic being brought up on AoC forums. Devs did comment on it, in short, there will be no Physx in AoC, they don't think it's worth the money and effort. Apperantly it takes A LOT more coding to properly implement it in MMO game due to latencies.

CellFactor seems to be there big feture on their website. I saw the video for it on Ageia.com and it looks amazing. Looks like there is some sort of telekinesis skill you can harness to lift things in the air and through at people/targeets.

the sheer amount of thing being manipulated at once is incredible. Whole massive stacks of barrels are brought together and scattered all under realistic physics. It's incredible for sure.
