Servers and server locations.
I sure hope that the servers will allow different locations to play on the same server. None of that dividing North American, European and Asian servers... I would like to play with all of my brothers

I agree. I would like for people to choose where they want to play. For one thing, since the dawn of the internet age it allowed people from all over the world to communicate with each other. I would like that to be said about games still too. Seems like lately, mmorpg's have been more harsh on that with localized servers.

It would be lame, but also practical in certain ways. Anyhow I'll get back to that later in my post. Dividing the community in this way is a disaster for many pre-game launched guilds in fact, that on release, servers are restricted so only americans can play on american servers etc. I'm pro playing with people from all over the world.
I imagine it can be practical to put US/EU/Asian IP restraints on the server if their goal is to pair up players with similar cultures in different servers. Asian playerbase has their needs and their own favorite events etc, and the EU market has other demands. However, that would imply that different servers would have different configs, and that does not strike me as a positive thing, unless I'm able to choose for myself what server I would like to play on. example; Lineage2 has different servers for different parts of the world, with different configs, and in fact the asian players received expansions up to six months prior to the same expansions were released to the NA and EU players, this was due to the fact that they had to translate everything within the expansion.. And the company developing Lin2 were asian (doh?). I pray to crom (even though he rarely ever listens to his minions) that AoC will not have localized servers with IP-restraints. I'll just finish this post off with a quote from the Devs, Quote:

I really dont see this as a problem. We're just making mountains out of mole hills. There will be different servers and we'll all be able to join anyone we want. I just can't see them restricting you to one because you live there. I for one live in Germany but its only temporary (i'm army). So whats going to happen when i got back stateside in 2 yrs? Nothing, i'll be able to log on like normal and keep on gaming. At least thats the way I see it.

Hopefully you are correct Chon,
I guess its the usual "this is the end of the world" syndrome, which often occurs when men(and women) are forced to wait for something they have such high hopes for. Kind of like the movie Armageddon... just came up with that on the top of my head.

This might be a good time to poll our membership for their locations and figure out where we all stand in terms of where we can play. |
