Money Money Money Synchs

The importance of a good economy in the games ya play can really make or break games for alot people. Without getting into all the details about game economics lets talk about good ideas we would like to see or not see as money synchs in AoC.

DO's
I would like to see skills being a little more on the expensive side than most MMO's...allthough I would like an opertunity to also be able to quest for some skills as well so that your time=money paid for the skill.

Gambling

Upkeep/Rent for buildings

Upkeep for Mounts without the work of actually having to care for your mount personally on your char. (maybe a stable hand in towns)

Mounts themselves

sub components for crafting

travel fees or tolls

DON'TS
NPC repairs

tax %'s for NPC's

Broker fee's (ok if it's small, but not like Wow)

Any other idea's?

Let's see, I've always thought gambling was a good tool for getting money out of the virtual economy. One thing I never liked is a super high 'rent cost' for housing. I actually don't mind broker fee's in WoW, sure after a while it add's up but it's also mildly taking money out of the system.

Gambling is awesome, and I like the idea of rent on housing unless you build it yourself out of wood or something. It would also be cool if the only way to repair things was to have a player who is a smith do it, would help build a good crafter supported economy.

yeah TB your right about it being a very good way to filter that money out but, the problem I see with wow's though is the higher the price set the more they take.... this can lead the high end items being very much overpriced. So take for example... deeds for buildings... obviously they will take huge resources so should cost more than lets say a majority of what crafters will be selling...like in RL the more money ya make the more uncle sam takes from you in Wow. I had to do a horde to alliance trade for my hubby's freind so he bought some crap item I made for 290 gp.... they took 49 GP!!!! Thats way too much. I like the idea of a % cause it does keep the rich from getting richer but it has to be better than wow's figures for sure. Just my opinion.

I hate all npc and auction house taxes. We get taxed enough IRL, so I hate paying more taxes when I'm in my fantasy world trying to have fun.

I hear ya but money synchs(sp?) have to be a part of the economy in some form, otherwise ya have everyone running around with way too much money which can take away from the "specialty" of high end/status items. Taxing is one of the easiest ways to provide an ongoing and fair money synch. I think they had to make up a new number just for the amount of money some people had in SWG...lol. I would hate to see that again... if a majority of the player base can go to a broker and spend all they have 3x over than chances are the game needs more money synchs.

i like the sink system WoW has employeed. just add gambling and the addictive gamblers will bleed the extra off no problem.

upkeep on the horses will be ok iff lack of upkeep doesnt degrad them too much.

armour repairs and such will beeld off the extra as well, i just hope it doesnt degrade as you reapir it ala DAoC. where even if you repaired a piecxe it would eventually need to be replaced completely . that sucked

I am a big fan of the gambling idea myself. Especially if you can bet on bar fights, or in an arena of some sorts.

I wouldn't mind seeing weapon and armor repairs (unless you can get some sort of skill) as a money sink, as long as it is not too expensive.

Well Im hoping that repairs for weapons and armor are a skill therefor not really a money sink. I do think they should be degradable too, but thats just to keep the economy going for crafters as explained in the crafter thread.

Money sinks aren't neccesssary if the economy works really well and is balanced perfectly....ya that won't happen.

Biggest sink should be weapon and armor decay.

*edit* 100th post yay for me
