VG : E3 Videos
Just tossing these up. Taking a look at VG's combat speed, I think that would bug me a bit. On another note, I guess it means alot more "strategy" in the gameplay due to some of the choices you get during combat. But, I think on the otherhand I would rather have the feeling of combat being more frenzied and fast. One reason I'm really going to like AoC.. well that and the blood.

Well..I think if AoC didn't exist, that would be the game I would be interested in. There are alot of interesting elements, and the graphics are of the proper caliber for a new MMORPG. Of course, you can say the same thing about Conan, and Hyboria is a very deep world. Like you said, the speed of Conan just sounds like more fun and lends itself to allowing player skill to affect battle. I think in a "slower tactical" MMORPG, there will end up only being a few viable end game tactics that people will memorize and do all the time in a given situation. To say that if you save this person here, you cant fight the NPC over there.... well all that can be done with a faster twitch combat system as well.
I'm a big fan of Hyboria so I'm biased, but in general a fast game seems to be one where you have to really be on your game and paying attention... whereas a slower game can become the type where you "click attack, take a drink, click attack again, go to the bathroom", etc. I give Vanguard props for a decent product compared to a game like DDO, but to me there is no comparison between Vanguard and Age of Conan.

It looks like more of the same to me; attacks, buf's, reactions etc.
Not very impressed with it so far. But I must admit that I stopped halfway through the films.
