Guild Wars 2

I'm sure some of you here still play Guild Wars occasionally. I used to play it religiously, but I lost interest after a year. And what do you know? ArenaNet has decided to release Guild Wars 2 and fix all of the things I had problems with in Guild Wars. Here are some highlights from the announcement:

Quote:
The only detail given on Guild Wars 2 was that it will make use of the same game mechanics as the first game, while adding a fully persistent world to the mix.
Quote:
ArenaNet also announced that it was working on an expansion for the game, titled Guild Wars: Eye of the North... Guild Wars: Eye of the North will have 18 multi-level dungeons, 150 new skills, 10 new heroes, 40 new armor sets, and an abundant supply of new items, weapons, and titles.
Quote:
Like its predecessors, Guild Wars 2 will not require a monthly subscription fee from users

Guild Wars: Eye of the North is scheduled for a Q3 2007 release, and Guild Wars 2 is scheduled for release in mid-2008.

Here's the link to the full announcement on IGN: http://pc.ign.com/articles/776/776163p1.html

I liked the fast pace of Guild Wars, but I hated that you would basically look the same as everyone that was your same main class.

I may check out Guild Wars 2

Yeah. I also hated how the game radically changed from the "tutorial" to the "live game". No direction at all and my little pea brain had trouble figuring it out. Hmm, I need to finish Titan Quest too now that I think of it.

Lol no direction, check out Dungeon Runners, you're just sorta there but all you're supposed to do is kill stuff.

Guild Wars fixed that tutorial thing a bit later, at least I think they did, besides theres the GW Wiki with all the info you need. I'm such a cheater.

I agree there, I always like making the fugliest toon possibly, but GW didn't let me

a persistant world might be pretty good with the GW storyline quests...but still gets boring fast

I play GW for the PvP.

So I find it very interesting what they plan on doing with the combat.
Instead of having extremely complex skills, the skilsl will be more "action based"

The example they used to describe this was trying teh skill while jumping, while swimmimng, while running, while standing still, etc. It has the possibilty to behave differnetly.

I dunno if i like that or not. We'll hav eto see how it goes. I'll prolly end up staying with GW 1 though.. Its a classic as far as PvP goes in my book.

PC Gamer has a huge article on GW 2 and the expansion.

There using GW1 engine as a base, but adding in a lot of graphic upgrades.

I'll at least give it a look because it's free. The fact that this game is actually persistent makes it an even sweeter deal.

I enjoyed the first game, it just wasn't anything revolutionary.

Yeah, some suscribers already have that 10 page article, but its released in stoes on April 3rd.

From what I read its a whoe lot more than just graphical uopdates. There will be new races, there will be new combat, physics update (Z axis) etc.
