I'm gonna have to agree with Narud. A entire group needs to be build around defending the banner barer, of all the classes a Tank seems to be the best choice to me for the job (of banner barer). The banner was meant to help push the fight forward. Not only will it be able to be placed in the ground, it will also have knock back attacks and probably some other special attacks as the guild levels up as well.

ok so maybe im wrong, but the way i understood it...
you do not receive bonuses while the flag is being held (other then the flag bearing having some flag-based usable abilitys...at the sacrafice of his own) and then the flag is then dropped to gain its morale/tactics abilities so you would want this dropped midfield (and whats a tank gonna do in mid field?) and i said magus because from their look so far, they wear heavy armor, and the disk does melee attacks as well, so they could defend themselves from a lone attacker long enough to get a heal/help (or possibly kite?) but yea, other then that i do support the idea for a group of 4-6 people holding/solely purpose to keep our flag

The way I understood it from that podcast is that the carrier can't use anything of his abilities, tactics, etc, but while holding everyone in the group gets the effect, if it's dropped the effect becomes a radius around the banner, so team members extending too far won't get bonuses. At first the banner has no tactic slots, those get unlocked as the guild gets higher level. So I stand with the healer being the carrier, why? cause the group probably has another healer or two (considering one will be a DoK in the front fighting with the tanks keeping them alive), if extra healing is needed, the healer drops the banner to assist, the tanks lose the bonus for a moment but the support and ranged DPS in the back keep it as they are in the radius, if an enemy runs towards the banner, you grab it again and shove him away with it (for what the podcast showed), rinse and repeat. Of course it's unknown if there's a timer on the banner after you put it on the ground before you can pick it up again, if there is then well my plan goes down the drains ![]()

as i said its all about protecting the colours thats why you have colour men around him doing the hard work plus us grunts up front hopefully stopping anyone one getting near him in the first place
shame u cant use the banner as an actual weapon obvoisuly without ya abilitys but nothing to stop it being a spear or a stave giving the invading foes a poke'n prod or thwack
