An interesting read
Talk about wasting money on an MMO. ZT Online will have you do just that:
Gamble your life away in ZT Online |

Killed to Death

I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. All this does is reward those that spend tens of thousands of RL money to be uber. This doesn't reward skill, just rewards people spending a ton of RL money.

I did not read the whole thing, but that is insane from what i read. I don't see how that is fun anyhow. Getting stressed out because you kingdom got owned and spending tens of thousands of RL money on some pretty pixels to take revenge.

Just editing your quote to make a point Dal. ![]() While I think spending thousands on a video game (a *SINGLE* video game) is ridiculous. I can understand the mentality. I remember back in my days of WoW, back when Molten Core and Onyxia's Lair were THE instances of the game and gold was still a rare commodity. With the durability loss people would have to farm for hours just to get what gear they had fixed and gather up the herbs needed to get fire resist potions (go to the Auction house you say? In the days before fishing bots firefin snappers were about as rare as gold itself. Anyway...). Suffice to say you would have to farm for hours a day just to keep that high-end Lightforge Armor and Devout Priest robes fully repaired. When suddenly you got a mysterious tell " $50 US for 40G. You get epic mount". Really? Put in another days work and get 40G? My armor repair problems are over. Suddenly you are part of the cliché that is able to attend raids on a regular basis because you can show up with brand-new-just-polished gear. While your poor brethren have to pass this time cause they couldn't get he gold together to pay for the last attempt on Gehennas. Want another example: When Eve-Online first came out in 2003 ISK was less rare than WoW gold, but still rare enough that it required alot of effort to accumulate. 20,000,000 just to the the blueprint (let alone the ship itself) of that just patched in battleship class.....good luck. But wait, here's our good friend the ISK seller offering 50,000,000 ISK for $200 US ( i know you can get 200,000,000 ISK for $10....NOW ). And people paid it. Your Corp is now at war with another Corp. This war of attrition is not working in your favor. Ok shell out $200 and and show up at the next fight in 0.0 space in your spanking new Battleship. You've put too much effort into this Corp to lose now. But what's this? They have a Battleship as well? Well fine we have the blueprint, we can just shell out another 2,000,000 ISK for the materials needed to get out 2 more Battleships. Now what was the website of that ISK seller again? You see where I'm going with this. It was never about the money. It was about losing. People who fork over this kind of money cannot stand the thought of somehow being inferior to the enemy/peers/whoever. "Queen" Lu Yang apparently felt the same way. Even tho' she apparently was something of a pacifist she could not break away. She could not abandon her "Kingdom" People who depended on her. Besides what was one Yuan...or another.....or another? Better to ask what was 10G? Or another....or another? Ok. I'm done wandering down memory lane of MMO's past.

That there are people actually willing to spend that kind of money on a thing like this makes the game developers heroes in my book, not to mention business geniuses. Kudos to them, I say.

I pretty much read the interview with the manager who worked on WoW or something and skimmed the rest. I felt like the manager was a bit of an arrogant !@#$. Aside from that, the game sounds like a bigger money sink than anything ive played. But if they wanna spend what they have on that let em.

thats why i quit wow. everything was to dam expensive and quests simply did not pay enough. i played a warrior and often times coming out of a long dongeon my amor was fucked and here i was a blacksmith but oh wait i cant fix my own dam armor.
able to learn new skills you say that will be 2gold 15 silver yikes. popular games like wow become big business in real life. it amazes me sometimes. there are just some players who take online games really seriously. |
