Altaholics

Hi, I'm earcar, and I'm an altaholic. The game isn't even out and I've switched my main at least three times already. I can never level to the cap mostly because I'm jumpin all over the place. For those who aren't altaholics, how did you focus on one character? The main reason I was an altaholic was because the class I was playing got boring, and another class seemed more fun. I kinda felt like I was missing help. Any tips to overcome this?

LOL I'm not an altaholic like you as I always got myself 1 main but if I don't stay stubborn about leveling the alts I create none of them ever reach the max level because I jump back to my main or to another alt. I think the primary thing you need to do to keep you from jumping all over the place is leveling fast. As that permits you to get new abilities quicker and tempts to keep the game interesting. Note the stuff you love about the class down as to why you choose to create it over others before you do so. At that same time, note the stuff you dislike about the classes you choose to pass over. Read those 2 lists every time the idea as to switching chars comes up.

The best way i found to overcome this addiction is to try every class and the one that was the best just stick with it. Even if the class gets a little boring stick it out, cause the grass is always greener, until you hit the level cap. Once you realize that leveling one char should be easy. each time you start a new char it should be easier to get to the same level your highest is.

Worked for me on Age of conan, got a ranger to 70 and realized ranger sucked
( took 7 days played ) i tried every class to 20 and found the class i loved and got it to 65 in 2 days played

Just find a class that interests you, hit the cap, and then indulge in making alts for every other class.

I love ranged / melee DPS classes the most (with my preference being ranged)...I take a look at what classes are available and pick the one I think will fit my play style the best. Initially I didn't want to play a squig herder because I didn't think I could bring myself to play a goblin. However, I have always had an affinity for ranged dps / pet classes and I am pretty sure that I will be putting aesthetics aside so that I can play in the style I prefer.

I am a completest though so I am not usually plagued by altitis. I want to hit cap and complete all the quests and see all the content. I will usually get bitten by the desire to create alts once I have spent a good amount of time at cap or if I get stuck leveling...can't figure out a particular quest...etc. Once I do start creating alts though I usually can't stop because I don't really have an affinity for any other play style other than DPS so I get bored rather easily.

working toward goals always helped me. If my goal is to get a level 40 squig herder than that is probably what I will do.

I am the same as you Ear, never capped a char (4 lvls away from cap is the closest I have gotten), but I have also switched what I want to be main a lot too.

I will probably play every class to a certain level during open beta so i can get a feel for which one i like the best. afterall most alt-a-holics should just get it out of their system first thing and find out which alt they like the best =p

I max my main, and then work on alts.

Of course I play a lot so that's not so hard. I have 5 level 70 characters in World of Warcraft, two in partial T6 gear, one in partial T5 gear, one in karazhan/badge gear and one in crappy greens. The last one I leveled because it was easier to cap him to get a flying mount to fish for crawdads than it was to level fishing on one of my other toons.

Oh, and I have a level 64 hunter I just haven got around to capping, and two maxed level 19 twinks.

I need to get a life.

Easy, know what you want to do in the game (Heal, melee, tank ranged) then pick the second thing you want to do (heal, melee, tank ,ranged) find the class that fits those criteria and go with it and dont forget that every class opens up FAR more at end level.
