The Exorcism of Emily Rose
We saw this one on Tuesday. I had read the reviewers criticizing it for not being all that scary. I agree with that, BUT if you put your expectations low and understand that this isn't a true horror movie, I think it will become more enjoyable. I purposely went into it expecting a drama, with a lot of courtroom action, and don't get me wrong, there was, but then, when something did happen, there was a little more shock to it. There was an interesting twist in the end, it doesn't blow you away like some movies (Sixth Sense), but it make me say, "Hmmm, interesting" lol. It does depict a more "realistic" looking possession then you see in other movies, which was good, but I was still waiting for the pea soup to fly, but there was none hehe.
I think movies now have to fit into these catagoties that we have set, be it horror, or drama, comedy and what not, then, if something is a little on the line and doesn't scare the hell out of us, it isn't a good horror movie, or make us laugh or cry or whatever, then it sucks. I'm not saying I disagree with those who were let down, if I was expecting something more frightning, I would be too. For those who haven't seen it yet, take my advice, expect a drama court room movie with some thrills thrown in. The story is centered around a girl who is overcome by six demons. A priest is authorized by the Archdiocese to preform an exorcism, which fails. The girl dies and the priest stands trial for interfering with her medical treatment which is seen as the direct cause of her death. Through the coutroom testimony we are given flashbacks to the events: demonic attacks, hallucinations, and the exorcism itself. In the end we learn why the priest is so determined to, "tell Emily's story" (yeah that line gets old after the first 20 times he says it) lol.

Before I watched this movie I had very very little expectation from it. As most horror movies nowdays I defenitly wasn't expecting it to be scary. I was actually thinking it will be just another exorcism rip off with meaningless story and funny acting (yeah a lot of time possessed people are...funny lol).
To my suprise this was one very well done movie, I liked it more than I could have hoped for and I nejoyed every single bit of it. 5/5.

This movie is not meant to scare people. It's more of a drama before anyting else and it's very good drama indeed. Besides this movie is based on true story which I find very interesting.
Honestly, I really did enjoy Exorcism I and II, 3rd one was so so and Exorcism The Begining sucked, but neither of them were really scary you know, it's been a while since I got scared or felt uncomfy in scary way while watching movie.

I have a link to a web page that talks about the real girl which the movie was based on
http://www.fotofetch.com/ But all my searching to find the recorded exorcism have come up with nil. My apologies for that, but I did find a recording of a russian exorcism if anyone wants to hear that. http://paranormal.about.com/library/..._recording.htm Last edited by GR1MNIR; 04-15-2006 at 01:21 PM. |
