Sicko

Anyone seen this? I'm not sure if it's going to be any good or not.

Looks good, I won't see it in theaters though. Hell if I'm spending 10 bucks.

I saw it, it was leaked all over the internet the day before it was in theaters.

Moore said he doesn't care as long as the sites don't make a profit off of it.

You can probably find one of 'em still if you look around.

its good.
the movie is more about people with horrible health coverage then people then no health coverage, so it applies to more than just the 45 million with no coverage at all.

Also ignore the right wing noise machine.

I just seen it a bit ago. I love the films he puts out - very satirical including his awful truth series. Sicko was excellent, and disturbing - and I came away truly wondering if things were this bad for medical aid in USA. He made some very good points, such as there should be no profit in any portion of health care which I agree with fully. Definitely worth seeing though, but its not an upbeat film so don't go if you want to leave the theater feeling cheered up hehe. If he is true I hope this movie catalyzes some movement for change in the US.

I think a non-profit health care system would be disastrous. Doctors would not spend four years in college, four years in med school, and work four years of residency just to make no money. The "doctors" of that world would probably be the equivalent of an undereducated nurse. What would be perfect and what is realistically possible are two different things. I appreciate your idea that people should help others out of the goodness of their hearts, but it takes a lot of hard work for one to excel in the medical field. Those diligent people that have what it takes to stay the course and complete their training, earn the right to make the big bucks. Would I like to see free health care? Hell yes! But I know that 99% of the time you get what you pay for. Would you do your job to your best ability for free? For that matter, would you do your job at all for free? I don't think so.

Whatever you want to think, just know that the USA's health care system has a higher customer satisfaction index than any other health system in the world.

[SPOILER DONT READ IF YOUR SEEING THE MOVIE]

In the movie sicko he talks to doctors in the French health care system which is 100% socialized medicine - from the documentary they indicate they make a very nice income. Of course this comes from one point of view and it would be nice to hear the other side of the coin so to speak. He also states that the health care in the USA is great! If you can afford it or afford to fight the health care provider in a dispute. Trouble is a great many cannot in both cases. Once again one side of the coin but interesting commentary. I'm from Canada so I have no first hand dealing with the health care in the US, therefore its hardly position to talk on that system but a sad reality most times in life is that profit>people.

I'm sorry. I misunderstood your first post I think. When you said "there should be no profit in any portion of health care which I agree with fully", I thought you meant doctors should work voluntarily.

About socialized medicine. A lot of people like to think that it is free health care. But it's not. Citizens of that country pay higher taxes. Last I heard the French version of sales tax was almost 20%. And as you know, in your country some areas have over 16% sales tax. 13% in your province last time I was there.

Last, you're right about the fact that some people can't afford health care in America. I think it sucks ass that a lot of people can't get the medicine and treatment needed to cure their health problems, but that's life. I know that sounds cold and heartless on my part, but that's the way the world is. The only one you can count on to take care of you is yourself.

Your 100% correct about the cost of socialized medicine - a great portion of our taxes in Canada go to pay for the medical system. I think the strongest point MM makes in Sicko is the tie between profit and service providers in health care including research and development of drugs at laboratories. It seems very clear that they cannot be trusted when there is a buck to earn. Kind of reminds me of the movie "The Rainmaker" which is worth watching for Danny Devito's ambulance chasing antics alone hehe.
