I just watched City of God tonight, it was so good I felt compelled to make a thread. Story of gang warfare in Rio during the 60s and 70s.

Saw this awhile ago like four years ago. It is still a great a great movie and being brazilian myself, that movie gave me insight on my peoples harships (lol).

There was a mini series based off this movie but it is in Portuguese but it might have subtitles by now, im not sure.

If you can, watch the whole series. It is just as amazing as the movie, especially once it starts to get towards the ending episodes.

^^^^ Thanks for the rec. I've got netflix also, so I'll watch at least part one tonight. I really want to go to Brazil to train, but I have absolutely no knowledge of Portuguese other than "mata "leao"

Remember to use search, advance search, search titles is extremely usefull, probably a much better idea than search for words inside posts coz this aint exactly a small forum with only a handful of threads :P

Anyway, ye i watched the movie 4 or so years ago n watched it bout 20 times since then, bought it on dvd. Its a great unrelenting movie which will leave u sweatin n on the edge of your seat, particurarly if you were one of those people who really knew nothing about how bads things are in developing countries. Great acting (all the actors but the guy who played Carrot i think it was were just people from the Favella, not trained actors or anything which gave the film a sort of raw edge to it), dark humour and its 'flashback' sort of storytelling is very well done.
