Most overrated movies?

So what movies have fallen far short of expectations that might not have actually sucked? I saw the submission of Apocolypto and I thought, "well it certainly wasn't nearly as good as the hype but it wasn't that bad ..." Yeah this stuff is always so subjective. Sometimes a movie will just clean up at the Oscars and I buy the B.S. and go see it and just think it was a TOTAL waste of my time.

1) Apocolypto

2) The English Patient (have the wife to thank for this pos. At least, when she saw this again about 5 years later she said, "I can't believe I thought this was so good.")

3) American Beauty (pretentious piece of art - not a truly bad film)

4) American Pie (moved from my 'worst' list. What 12 year old still thinks these bad dick jokes are funny?)

5) 300 (entertaining but nowhere near as good as the hype)

i disagree about 300.......it was more then what i exepected. its up there with my all time favorites.

i thought the last 3 star wars films didnt live up to expectations at least for me.

300 and Superbad.

I thought American Beauty was great. It also lent Family Guy the scene where the cheerleader opens her shirt and all the drumsticks come out, lol.

Eragon. This is on my worst movie list too. I saw posters everywhere for that movie and was excited to see it, but it just sucked completely.

Good call on the new Star Wars films. That's a set that belongs on most overrated AND worst. It's sad that the franchise has sunk to such a low where people argue over which one sucked the least.

Cloverfield.

Viral marketing for it was everywhere. The trailers were well done in that no major plot elements were revealed.

The actual film? Meh. Shaky-cam tripe. The conclusion was somewhat of a letdown.
