I PMed you a link. Take a look and tell me what you think.
EDIT: And right now it's looking like I won't be getting anything. My mom is saying that I don't commit to anything. Well it's kind of hard to commit to something if there's never been anything for me to commit to... It's like I'm so irresponsible that I'd be throwing money away, even though I've never had a chance to show her that I can be committed... Kind of pisses me off that after 16 years of doing nothing in my life, I try to do something and she shuts me down. Way to build my self esteem... Last edited by Heme; 05-02-2007 at 05:10 PM. |

I just posted on a very reputable bass forum that I belong to, asking them to recommend me the best starter package in your price range (about $300). I've never dealt with those packages myself so I'll get back to you once I get some responses.

Yeah. Well I really want to learn SOMETHING, and a few friends of mine from school have a little "Band-let". Just a drummer and a guitarist, but it's a start.
And I'd like the B-day idea... Except my birthday was 5 months ago .And speaking of that, my mom wouldn't let me get drums for my birthday either... I swear, she has absolutely no faith in me whatsoever. |

She probably didn't want you to get drums just b/c they are loud as fuck and when you are starting out just sounds like a plastic jug full of nuts and bolts being thrown around, heheh. If the volume thing is an issue make sure you tell her how you can practice silently using headphones plugged into your amp.

Well I understand the sound issue, but we have a sound proof garage. I'd have a place to practice inside there. She brought up the commitment lecture again, and then delved into when I quit the trombone after 2 weeks because my instructor was an asshole and later turned out to be a child molester. Good point though, mom. I totally shoulda been raped by him to learn the 'boner. (In more ways than one..
)I just don't understand how I'm supposed to prove I'm committed until i get a job this summer. It's irritating. |

I kinda had a similar thing happen too (not the molester part). My parents signed me up for saxophone lessons for the summer, I went through it and progressed but at the end I stopped playing b/c it just wasn't the instrument for me.
But, yeah, I'm sure if you keep at it atleast you will show some commitment in nagging her . Seriosly though, getting a summer job and sticking with it should show her some commitment.

Damn, you bastards like completely kicked me out of this thread
![]() Oh wells, good luck in your playing. Like I said, just fiddle around with it, maybe play it to some other music too. Bass is a good choice you can really get groovy with some jazz (I play jazz on my trumpet mostly), and there's some realllly nice basslines. You don't get enough recognition in a band, unless it's either small (2-3 people mostly instrumental) or you're reallllllllly freakin' good (like Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers) |

Not about the recognition for me. I just need something to do. And from videos I've been watching all over the place, bass are really the tone setters. Even though the whine of the guitar is what people hear, it's the beat from the bass and the drums that keeps them listening and swaying their head.
