Metal/Progressive Metal

Any other good bands out there in this category? I'm listening to A Perfect Circle and Tool, and I need more. I just got into this genre a few weeks ago, and I can't get enough.

I'm a fan of The Outsider by APC, and Schism by Tool. I just need more.

It's a tough genre to label. You often hear Tool and APC named in the genre, but then again my favorite band Opeth is often labeled as Progressive Metal, though it uses elements of Death Metal, Folk, Jazz, Classic Rock, and more. You also see Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, and Rush labeled as Progressive Metal, so really, I feel like it's a broad, broad genre, especially when you consider some people also use the label Progressive Rock. I don't put much stock into labels anyways, so don't worry about looking for Progressive Metal. You'll find totally different sounding bands.

As for bands that might sound similar to Tool or A Perfect Circle, the only band that I might reccomend at the moment is Isis. Might not be a perfect fit, but Isis is an outstanding band. Otherwise, I don't know if I can help you with anything else similar. APC and Tool are certainly unique.

Yeah, I just love the sound. It's gritty and raw, something I really shyed away from in my younger days. Now it just sounds good. I only labeled it progressive metal because that's what Maynard liked to call it.

Yeah, Progressive isn't an inaccurate label, it just doesn't mean much since it covers a huge spectrum of music.

Besides Isis, I don't think I can offer you much unless maybe you give me some other types of music you like. Like I said, Tool is very unique.
