Final Fantasy (series as a whole)

So, since I've run out of material to read and since summer session's been over, I've been replaying my Final Fantasy games. I was just curious, what has everyone else's experience been with the series? Things you like / dislike? Memories? Upcoming hopes? Etc.

I'd go into more detail of my experiences, but I would rather allow some other's opinions come into play first, for fear I may cause biased responses.

WTF are you kidding me?

Scorpp what was wrong with 8? That was my favorite one, and 7 was pretty good also. I thought 9 was really bad.

I guess me and you just are not the same =(....

I loved 4 (other good ones were 7, 9 and 10) the rest weren't quite as good...
Tactics was by the far the best spin-off IMO

Since Square and Enix have merged i have little hope to see a decent Final Fantasy again

VIII was broken due to the Junctioning and leveling systems. You could literally pump up your HP well into the thousands in the first town after the Academy with only an hour or so of work, and soon afterward pump up any other stat you like. And if you DIDN'T junction effectively (not counting broken junctioning like the previous), you were screwed over, especially if you actually took the time to level, since at higher levels enemies were vastly more powerful than you sans Junctioning.

I've only played the GBA remake of I and I hear it doesn't compare with the original, but I liked it. Disliked the layout of the some of the dungeons and how there were some dungeons you literally could not get out of without beating the bosses, which, in one case, was impossible for me so I had to load an earlier save. Otherwise all good.

Didn't like II because of the leveling system. If you didn't start early with leveling HP, Defense, and AGI, you were screwed over later in the game. Characters were...okay, I guess. They switched out NPC's too often, though, especially early in the game. "Me speak beaver," is still, I think, one of the best lines in any game ever.

Never played III.

IV had good characters with a decent, if predictable, story and overall was pretty good.

Never played V or VI.

VII had a good thing going with Materia which, surprisingly, are much harder to break than VIII's Junctions. Also allowed for a great degree of customization. Story and most characters were meh, but the battle system was good so it's fine in my book. Did not play Dirge of Cerberus or Crisis Core.

Already explained why I dislike VIII. Actually, add characters to that. I didn't like any of the characters.

IX had, in my opinion, the best story and characters out of the entire series. Battle system was good too. Almost impossible to either break or gimp your characters from the customization offered, slim though it is. Personal favorite, out of the entire series counting spin-offs.

X had Auron, which, in my book, makes up for most of its flaws like practically every other character. Mainly Tidus and Yuna, but since they're the main characters it's a pretty bad situation there. Combat was good, especially if you leveled enough that you could move into other grids and mess around with Lulu/Rikku for a Black Alchemist or Auron/Tidus for an exceedingly fast greatswordsman. Story was okay. So, pretty much because of Auron, decent game.

X-2 sucked. Extremely lackluster story and the battles were blech. Plus, Yuna is still the main character. The entire game is basically an eye-candy simulator, but I don't hold that against it and it is in fact one of the few reasons I would recommend it. The only reason, actually.

XI was slow. SLOW. Otherwise very, very good, and I enjoyed it while I played it. Only got to level 19 so I know next to nothing of the story and literally nothing of advanced jobs, but I can safely say I enjoyed Monk and Warrior.

XII. Haven't finished it yet, but the combat...I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I enjoy that I can set my allies to use certain spells or items under certain conditions. Since I can't very well control them all directly in the battle, it's good that I was given a way to make sure their AI doesn't suck. On the other hand, having everything automated like that takes a little of the pride away. It's not so much, "Man, that boss fight sure was hard! Luckily, my quick thinking/good planning saved the day!" as it is, "Man, what a boss fight! Good thing my allies followed the precise set of commands for this type of battle which almost guaranteed victory!" Plus, Mist Charges just confuse the shit out of me. I'll assume that's due to my own stupidity and not a con of the system, since everyone else seems to understand them just fine.

Tactics was excellent. Somewhat confusing story, and possibility for broken builds (i.e. Calculators), but otherwise the battle system was great until you get El Cid, and even then you can just choose not to use him if you enjoy any sort of challenge. Characters were half-decent to decent.

Tactics: Advance was good. Story was much clearer and was still decent. Every character sucked. Battle system was almost as good, and the cons of the system are easily remedied by the new races and jobs, which I enjoyed. Laws absolutely sucked.

Haven't played Tactics: Advance II, but I really, really want to.

There you go. My thoughts on every Final Fantasy game I could think of.

As for future games? As long as they stay away from that horrid Junctioning system, I'm pretty much fine with anything, though I do prefer the ATB timing system. Turn-based is fine too.
