Warhammer 40k - MMO

So is anyone excited for Warhammer 40k MMO? Here's the most recent info (if you want to call it that) for the game.

Ten Ton Hammer: Fans all know the contract was signed with THQ for the Warhammer 40K MMO game. Have there been any developments over the last two months?

Erik: It’s still early days, but I can tell you that I’ve been to visit the developer, Vigil Games, to meet the team and discuss initial game concepts. We had some exciting first meetings and they even had a few pleasant surprises to show me. I’m really looking forward to working with Vigil, and from what I’ve seen I think the 40K MMO could be something very special. The guys at Vigil certainly impressed me with both their knowledge of, and their passion for, Warhammer 40,000. That’s an excellent place to start!

Ten Ton Hammer: What are your hopes for an MMO set in the 40K universe? Do you think it will turn into just another FPS game or will there be more depth?

Erik: Well, first of all, my hopes are that it isn’t ‘just another’ anything. And who said it was going to be an FPS? Nice try, Fuller! I’m on to your mind games, and you’re getting no secrets out of me!

My hope for the Warhammer 40,000 MMO is very similar to what my hope has been for WAR all along. I want it to be both a great MMO, and a great representation of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. I want it to appeal to those who don’t know an Avatar of Khaine from a Tyranid just as much as it does to someone with thousands of painted miniatures on display in their home. Ultimately though, I want the game to rock!

Sweet. Although I think it'll be hard for them to get all the aspects of 40k into an MMO. We'll see as time goes.

In the Warhammer 40k discussion we had in the MMO area, Sleeky had an excellent idea that I discussed with him:

wow, really interesting idea actually that might just work pretty well. It would have the large scale, it would make vehicles possible, even keep in line with the tactics of Warhammer 40k. It could control something like the Xbox Full Spectrum Warrior series. You could have your feats and whatnot be tactical abilities instead, like say laying mines, throwing grenades, using jetpacks, etc.

If this were an online shooter I'd expect a more action experience, but since it's an MMO I'm not so sure. I'm definately more comfortable with action, but that squad idea actually sounds pretty amazing I must say, and probably more plausable.

So if they do that, they'd completely have me on board. It really would fit into all the MMO conventions. You could choose different classes for your squad like Armor, Recon, Melee, etc and have all those abilities and equipment like jetpacks and grenades. That would be some cool stuff.

Defintely Interested in it...if they pull it off right, chances are its either gonna be really good or really bad, it is definitely going to be hard to do.

I must've missed this conversation, but after reading that and thinking about it.....shit yeah that does sound good. We'll just have to wait and see.....I'm hoping for the best.

That's sort of how DoW works when building squads. You can customize what sort of upgrades you get in order to make the squad more melee- or ranged-oriented. It's somewhat simple, but if they take that idea into the MMO, I'm sure they'll expound upon it, making for more options. Heck, who knows, they might even let you have your own army, with vehicles, multiple squads, and everything. ...

This is the first time I have heard of an MMO 40k and if they do it right it will rock, the only drawback is that it will most likely take away lots of players from WAR.
