I'd say oblivion even helped explore the wilderness by the fact that you could talk to people and they would tell you about places in the wilderness which you could then explore. None of this stumbling about business.
I also loathed walking in morrowind and fighting all the damned little flying things. Oblivion was a fun game, but it annoys me that the enemies never get any easier. They always scale exactly in power with you, and the newer enemy types just have more tricks. Therefore, your level is essentially meaningless. Also archers get boned pretty hard, especially as enemies take more and more hits to kill. So, side quests actually can make the game harder, except that magic items gained can let you overpower challenges your martial skills would never let you get through. Hand-to-hand was a blast though when I remade my character. Punching demons was a lot of fun.

HAH, UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES MY ARSE!!!!!!!! I'm serious if you know how to exploit the balancing system you're unbeatable in this game. I thought they really screwed up by having the world level with you though. Thank god for OOO. Anyways I don't care how big the environment was, with randomly generated mobs and loot in almost every dungeon, and many of them sharing nearly identical formats, there really only needed to be 4 or 5.

I like the learn-by-doing skill system of the Elder Scrolls games, but it's easy to exploit. Just leave a book on the spacebar for a few hours and you'll max out athletics. I played Morrowind extensively and it has been one of my favorite PC games of all time. I haven't spent much time on Oblivion though.

Plus first person view in a graphically game like that was a bad combo imo, 3rd person view is better and the one they added to Oblivion was crap at best. And for that game they should have added a "target lock" option as many times you try to kill something, some dumb "ally" jumps in front of you and you whack him then he attacks you, and you gotta load the game back 30mins ago because you forgot to save ![]()
