Virus =/= spores.

Certain (vegetative) bacteria can turn into endospores if the climate isn't formidable or becomes hostile; the processes is called sporulation. The cell loses all it's functionality and goes into a resting state until it's surroundings become habitable. At this stage the endospore goes through sporogenesis and transforms back into it's bacterial state.
