I never stated that I agreed with Nintendo's mindset. I was simply stating their goals in contrast to Microsoft and Sony. The basic controller design for any contemporary platform allows anyone to pick up a game and play, yes; it's the gameplay itself that differs from person to person.
Does every individual want to gain the skills and nuances required to master a shooter? No. Does every shooter require those skills? Of course not. Developers are becoming more and more aware of this and allowing their titles to be accessible to a broader audience. It doesn't help that the overall difficulty of a title is affected by this; I believe this was touched on in another topic you made, Zin. In either case, Nintendo is simply focusing their efforts in a new angle, rather than enabling their software to be accessible to everyone, like the rest of the companies are doing. |

You know a few other games that were easy to pick up and incorporated no technical skill?
Those crappy licensed games from the past generations. Nintendo took the mentality behind those terrible, terrible games and made a console out of it. Now I'm not saying it wasn't a great decision by Nintendo, hell the sales speak for themselves. What I'm saying is that they've made the Leapfrog laptop of videogame consoles. (And nice to have another good debate going on these boards, heheh.)

The video games industry has always been subject to sweeping changes that can bode for good or ill within the major software and hardware manufacturers. While the concept of introducing new players to the realm of video games is not new, Nintendo certainly was one of the first to capitalize on that concept and turn it into a company practice.
It sucks that it produced kiddy-like hardware. And debates are fun! ![]() |

I like the Wii. :x
I'd like more and better games, but hell. I'm content with my Wii as it is. Brawl > your soul. Obviously, I jest, but there's enough good games for the Wii for me to love it. Though, of course, I will always prefer my PC to any console. |

Frankly, I would have to credit Nintendo for introducing me to the world of video games during the wide-eyed years of my youth. I recall picking up an SNES controller, and the rest was history. Nintendo will always hold a special place with me because of that very event.
Of course, I'm almost exclusively a PC junkie like laird, so it doesn't really matter.

Innovation and renovation only go ao far though. Me and my friends who watched the E3 Nintendo conference only thought that Nintendo had abandoned the hardcore gamer because there sales where coming more from the casual gamer. Back to my main point though, how many sword fighting and Fps games can ou make before it becomes stale and generic. I think Nintendo has to stop focusing on making the absolute most out of its motion sensativity and mare on the actual fun of the games because after its all said and done its what keeps players playing thier games.

I will hold on to my Wii, I enjoy it and makes as a good party entertainment. If I am to get another system it would prob be a 360. My old xbox kept me content with the xbox live and a great library of games and I like the library of games you get with the xbox 360.
