So I just got it on tuesday and I have been playing it a lot. I have the 360 verison and it is very addicting. Anyone else got it and wants to play me? my gamertag is Mr Beryllium

I love the game. The gameplay is exactly as i anticipated and I am loving every second of it. The critical finishes are interesting, albeit useless in actual play and the character creation mode is fantastically deep. The new character Hilde is interesting but not my style. Darth Vader is rather slow with lots of strong moves. Not my type but hey, he's cool to play as anyway.

I have the playstation 3 version, unfortunately, but I am enjoying the game very much. And let me add: Darth Vader is totally awesome as a character. He is slow, I agree, but the ability to chain together attacks and force holds helps negate it if you are skilled enough. As to which version is better, it's a moot point anyway since each character will eventually become downloadable content for the opposing version.

Vader's Apprentice is an interesting character, faster and more technical than Vader but with less oomph.

I spent most of my time yesterday playing this on my 360. I have to say, this is the best iteration of Soul Calibur that I've played it. I really like the fact that the developers have focused more on multiplayer and online play as opposed to delivering a wonky single-player game, ala Chronicles.

Anyways, I'm slowly mastering the Apprentice. I've fallen in love with his moveset, as well as his superb juggling techniques. His low attacks leave a bit to be desired, though.

I discussed this with my friend last night. He claims Yoda is terrible. Vader isn't bad, just for being a slow guy, I can find a normal character that does his game play style better. Mitsurugi comes to mind, faster and hits just as hard.

People claim the apprentice is broken but I haven't played him that much.
