Depressing

Does it ever depress anyone to go onto news websites and see that all the most popular videos are just incredibly, undeniably, stupid?

I mean really, Russia is in Georgia right now and people are concerned about Bigfoot and a dog that swallowed a fork!
I think that we should give average citizens tests to see how informed they are, and if they are concerned about things like a dog swallowing a fork than a Russian stomp-push we should slap a big red sticker on their forehead that says;
"MY OPINION DOES NOT MATTER."

Thanks for letting me vent LoS .

edit: And that video about a reporter being shot in Georgia is dumb too. From my understanding she was hit by a tiny piece of shrapnel and, despite not wearing a Kevlar vest, was fine after it. I guess people don't want to concern themselves with the three reporters that died!

lol yea man i sometimes wonder if we've really come that far in the past 50 years in terms of getting smarter, alot of people are just dirty turnip peasants (elitism o yea!).

As for the whole Georgia thing, thats a whole propaganda war around the whole thing, so ya gotta look at the facts.

1. Georgia invaded South Ossetia for no aparent reason despite peace talks going on and the news seem to be overlooking this, i mean Russia wasnt the agressor in this.
2. Russia came in to defend its passport holders and to make sure people in the area know who's top dog. Not really unreasonable i mean Israel does it all the time in Palestine and none of the US politicians seem to blink, bit of a double standard.
3. Now if everything froze here, Russia pulled back with an agreement that for the moment neither the Georgian army nor the Russian army would enter South Oscetia, Russia would have won the propaganda war in my mind, however they got a tad greedy and pushed out of the borders of Southern Oscetia and into Georgia. Perhaps to show the Georgian government that if Russia wanted to they could crush them and their US allies wouldnt do much to help em, mebe a few food drops or something and thats what i think this is, Russia reaffirming its dominance and gaining a very very loyal ally in the region. The Oscetian millita. I mean its quite genious in the long run in case of another apocalyptic world war ensues, they've gotten themselves a people who will fight with them. Anyway sorta trailing off here lol.

Whats your thoughts on this Zin? or anyone else?

This Russian guy definitely aint a turnip peasant (not sarcastic)

"There are no good guys here. Not Saakashvili, not Putin, not the South Ossetian separatists, not the politicians from the West.

I believe the Georgians were reacting to provocation from Ossetian separatists, and the situation gave Russian forces the chance to make their presence felt in Georgia.

But there is no justification for Saakashvili to order the attack on South Ossetia as it was bound to lead to civilian deaths.

From what I've read he's just as bad as Putin.

This situation is analogous to Kosovo, where separatists there provoked action from Milosevic and Serbia. He was called a war criminal, but Saakashvili is seen as the victim in the West.

The media coverage has been biased on both sides. I expect this from the mainstream Russian media - but not from Western media. The only information I can rely on is independent Russian news sites.

There was a lack of historical context in much of the Western media and the overwhelming sense that Russia was to blame.

The reaction from the international community merely plays into Putin's hand. He wants Russia to be feared and respected. Condemnation from the West results in ordinary Russians rallying behind the government. "

well Maniacus, you could go as far as saying that all the media coverage is bringing back memories of the Cold War, seeing an army of Russian Tanks steam roll into another country. Despite Russia's motives it seems like they were going to get flak for this anyway. Either because they are still a world power, and should have handled it better through more peace talks or harsh warnings. Or go through the UN, (Cant remember if the UN was involved in this at all, if so let me know ), to gain permission for military action.

I dont think we really have a foot to stand on in this argument because the US hasnt been the role model for dealing with these type of situations. We can still help and make a difference if our government tries to work with Russia to resolve this, but because of our action in the Middle East, our influence has diminished a bit.

But all in all it wont last long, Ive already seen some news threads saying Russia has been pulling out of Georgia.

The UN is there from my understanding, but didn't play a role in the pre-game.

Anyways I think Bush's condemnation of their actions was totally hypocritical. It seems like smaller countries use hopelessness as a shield, so that whenever they have aggression pointed towards them for whatever reason they can fall back behind the press.

Well I'm sure GW doesn't want people to know he's about to jump right in to WWIII does he?

I had a huge talk about all those goings on last night. It's stupid how controlled people are becoming.

I agree with you on the biased opinions we have seen in the Western Media and I feel both nations involved are somewhat at fault. It seems that Russia is desperate to reinsert themselves as a global power, and to do so they must show they are not afraid to act. I can't find the statement right now but I remember Putin saying something about it being a shame that the Soviet Union crumbled so I really doubt they will respect the borders of former Soviet state's borders.

This is EXACTLY what i was thinking. I have AOL.com as my homepage, dont know why, I guess I havent changed it since I downloaded the messanger. But when I launcher internet explorer I always read the headlines and little clips it has on the front page. 90% of the time its some bullshit about a celebrity or some other thing no one cares about, oh, I shouldnt say that because half the populace of the 1st world is retarded and is interested in that flop. It really saddens me when people have no idea whats really going on in the world because there to busy figuring out who slept with who and what new super pills going to make them skinny with no effort required...
