Problem with Vent
Okay, so even though I've been playing games for going on 2 years now, I just bought my first mic today!
Problem: I have a key bound to speak. As I hold the key down, Vista beeps at me CONSTANTLY because I'm holding a key down and it doesn't know what to do about it. (You know that annoying little error beep?) Any ideas how to make that stop? It's really annoying, and makes it hard to hear anyone who talks after I do! Thanks ![]() ~ann~ *EDIT*: Nevermind, I fixed it! I went into control panel, and for "default beep" (The offending sound) I told my computer just to play no sound for it. Not sure if this is the appropriate fix, but as far as I'm concerned, it works for now. Admin: Feel free to delete or lock this thread Last edited by Annyah; 08-12-2008 at 07:39 PM. |

I'm no Vista expert, so maybe this is mistaken, but...that sounds a little dangerous.
The way you've described it, it sounds as though you've turned off the beep for common errors. Every common error. If your computer errors while set like this, you might not know about it. Granted, most likely they won't be serious errors...I don't know of many serious errors that don't either throw up a message of some sort or simply crash your computer, neither of which requires a beep to inform you that something's gone wrong. It's just something to think about. Someone with more experience in Vista could post and provide better information and suggestions.

Yes... that's exactly what I did, and you're exactly right, I won't hear any messages/dings my computer gives me.
My thought process was similar though, in that odds are if it's serious enough, a window or something will pop up. I dunno.. any better suggestions are welcome. I do see the inherent problems with what I did, but at least I'm not totally annoyed for now? |

I had no problems with vista yet. Maybe I'm just lucky. Only thing bothering me is my computer not being able to stay on sleep mode. It restarts after 10sec or so but oh well getting used to shutting down my computer completely instead of trying to get it to stay on that mode.
