O.K. at home now so I have the time to dig up the DIY links.

http://dl.maximumpc.com/Archives/MPC0408-web.pdf

Actual instructions start on page 14 of the PDF.

Video tutorial
ExtremeTech's PC Building Video Tutorial - How To by ExtremeTech

Between the two you should be able to figure it out. DIY PCs are much simpler these days.

Alright, thanks all for the help. I probably won't start buying anything for a while, but now that you guys have shown a 500-600, 1,500, and with the PC Gamer, 1,600+, I now have a few options to look at once I figure out my budget.

You can count on me asking many more questions once I start buying things.

Don't want to hijack your thread october, but @ Pwn, do you think I could build a computer that has better performance than Newegg.com - iBUYPOWER GX-526 Phenom X4 9850(2.5GHz) 4GB DDR2 500GB NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit - Desktop PCs and have it come out slightly cheaper? Because looking at those instructions (and with my step bro to help and old computer to refer to for help) I'm pretty sure I could build a computer.

Exact same parts (case, CPU, HDD, GPU, OS, optical drives, & mobo) or superior (RAM & PSU) from Newegg, will run you $1082.43 shipped to San Antonio, TX. With $90 in mail in rebates refunded afterwards for a net cost of $992.43. The pre-built is $1100 after shipping and mail in rebates.

The two components that I changed from the pre-built list are the RAM & PSU. The pre-built lists memory standard as DDR2 800. Phenom processors are designed to run on DDR2 1066 memory standard. The NZXT 800w PSU they show as part of the pre-built unit does not feature active PFC. For that reason, I would not recommend using it. Used PCP&C Silencer 750w unit instead and 4Gb (2x2Gb) of OCZ Platinum DDR2 1066 RAM.

So essentially you can build the exact same system (with better power and correct memory standard) for ~$100 less.

Oh nice, thank you. That will definatley go over better with my parents if I throw in that they save $100 lol. So any chance you could do me a favor and make one of those parts lists like you did for october ? And when I do put it together will I have to update many things?

One handy item about MSI brand mobos is that they include a utility program called Live Update that will automatically search the MSI site for updates for your system.

Live Update 3 is a single utility software that automatically checks BIOS, driver and utility updates and installs for you , which can save your time for searching and lower the risk while updating.

It is convenient for those who are not comfortable with flashing a BIOS, updating drivers, etc.....

Thanks!!, and any chance I can get your opinion on how it will run WAR?
Lag will probably be up to the machine since my mom just upgraded to some really fast internet (idk what it is but just downloaded a movie in like no time at all)

It will run WAR with ease. It is a solid medium-high end machine. Not absolute top of the line, but not too far from it.

Thanks again Pwn
Now I just need to find a new monitor and keyboard, the mouse I have is fine.

Edit: have a keyboard, any suggestions on a monitor that will work fine with that system?
