Finding Music Files

Hey everyone,

A week ago my computer got 2 trojan viruses, one was serious and one was not as bad. I terminated both of them, however the lesser of the two viruses infected all my media files and started to corrupt my window files.

I used my Windows XP CD to repair the files. It is now fine. However, I can not find any of my music I had before I repaired. But the catch is this, if I go to my C Drives properties it says I only have 7% space, which is the same amount I had with all my music before the repair. The only things on my computer apart from windows and the internet is my music and WoW.

So: 1) do I still have my music? If yes, any ideas where I can find it? 2) If my music is lost, what is taking up so much space?

Thanks a bunch

What program did you use to "repair" the files? It may have made them hidden or something else. If it was chkdsk, then you might just wanna go ahead and reformat.

Well a chkdsk /r really shouldn't delete all your music files. It repairs sectors and blocks of your hard drive not delete them completely. If the virus was infecting your music files, then you may just want to let it go and take the loss. One thing you may want to check. See if there is an old windows partition. Perhaps a windows.old somewhere on your hard drive, it is possible they have been moved to something like that. Just search your whole hard drive for *.mp3 or whatever the extension was. If that doesn't find it you may be out of luck.

Reformat = Windows CD.

Get a copy of Undelete and do a search with it. If the files existing on the drive you can retrieve them.
