Another thing is RAM. You probably wont find better deal for 2x1GB set (cheapest DDR 400 is 151, which makes it very worthy to buy DDR 500 for 30 bucks more), but you can find VERY DECENT 2x512MB set for a lot less, if you think you don't need 2GB (please keep in mind that as things stand right now, it is not good idea to use all 4 RAM slots, meaning using 4 sticks, at the same time, ram speed automaticaly defaults to DDR 333 and you can't do damn thing about it, this is the case with all motherboards)

Another thing is case. Tho I find that case to be preatty inexpensive considering all the features it has. THIS case was originally my choice and I think it can last for long time, plus it has cool side window and side fan, side vent and top fan as well and it comes with Power supply...which you shouldn't use for your high end system, perhaps you could use it on one of your olders systems. Note: Don't go fir Mid Tower, go for Full Tower.

Whatever you do, don't try to save money on your motherboard tho, good motherboard is a must if you want your system to last awhile.

Also, I have not picked a video card yet, that will come in once AoC is around, and i'm waiting for DirectX 10 cards to come to market. I will however get THIS $36 PCIe low profile card for the time being just so I can use my system. Tho the sad thing is, that cheap ass card is about twice as good as the one I have now hahaha.

EDIT: There, you can save $120-$150 with the proposed substitutes w/out really giving up on the high-end aspect of the system.

EDIT 2: I will be getting THIS DVD-Burner. Very inexpensive. 36 bucks with shipping included.
I have a case, X-blade case

1GB of Ram which I'll have to sell

I have a DVD/CD RW, I need a few more fans, so I'll substitute those and save a few hundred dollars, I have a Radeon 9800pro which I can' t use with that mobo, I have an AMD 64 3200+ is that processor better? Do I need to change cases, or is that one gonna work, I think it might be a mid-tower, so I might need to change up.

oh yeah, could you pick me up the parts and mail them too me, I'll pay you back I promise

Yeah that case is mid-tower. sure you can use midtower case, but I highly recommand full tower tho.

Radeon 9800 Pro, don't know if that will cut it well for AoC, AGP is history, you need to move to PCIe.

As for processor, 3200+,...it can't really compare to Opteron 165. Sure it comes with stock speed of 2Ghz which is 200Mhz higher then opty 165. However, you don't buy Opty for it's stock speed, you buy it to overclock it and it is FAR BETTER overclocker then 3200+. Most people are lucky to overclock it up to 2.4 GHz, even tho some report it to OC as far as 2.8Ghz. On opty however, you are preatty much guaranteed the speed of 2.4+Ghz.

Also, 3200+ has 64Kb+64KB of L1 cache and 512 KBs of L2 cache, while Opty has 128+128 and 1MB+1MB of L2 cache (2MB compared to 512Kbs) and games like L2 cache............a lot. Oh yeah, Opty is DUAL CORE, while 3200+ is not, and future is looking good for dual core CPUs. If you are looking for high end sytem, 3200+ is out of question.

I say, know what you want as far as perfomance goes. If you think 3200+ will suit your needs, by all means go for it. Perhaps if you go with lower profile PC, like keeping your AGP card and processor, you might as well use mid-tower case, I think you can keep it cool enough for such system.

If you are on a budget, give me amount of your buget. Main pupose for your PC. If you want to use parts from your old PC, give me detailed list of all the parts that you have, I will put together system for you within your price range to gain the best performance.

1GB ram(x2 512MB sticks)
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0Ghz(told it's 3.2ghz compared to P4 equivalent)
Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB AGP
K8 Triton Motherboard AGP 8x/Dual channel DDR400

anything else I need to put down?

and I'm just looking for the best pc I can get, I'm gonna go get a job to pay for it, and I've seen people get $40 a day in tips, so it will take a month or 2 to pay for it, but if it'll last 5 years, I see it as worth it.

In that case just get my parts lol. If you want even better performance, get THIS $825 processor haha. Tho, you can surpass such speeds with overclocked Opteron 165.

Also, you are correct, 64 3200+ is nearest equivalent of P4 3.2Ghz.

Yeah lol, this one
That's only so I can use my PC, the cheapest PCIe card I could find. If that mobo had on-board video I wouldn't even be getting this.

Once AoC comes around, and once DirectX 10 cards are out along with Vista, I will then make my decision on what card to get.
As it stands right now I will probably end up with THIS baby. Should be less then $500 in 5 or 6 months.

Can I still play games at max settings with that $50 card, it seems too cheap to be useful, but maybe I'm wrong

With that card, no, defenitly not, it's just something to get if you have no other video card and don't want to buy one right now. You should still be able to play with around medium settings tho. That cheap card is better then the one I currently have in my system, Radeon 9600 SE.

In other news, my parts arrived today and I just ordered the rest of them. Hoping to get it on Monday and have everything set up by next Friday if not sooner.

Hello
Are you selling any of those? Or are you just listing them.
