Windows x64?
Wondering who, if anyone, is running windows professional x64 edition. I've been running it off a new install on my raptor SATA drive for a few weeks now without a hitch. Couple driver complications here or there (mostly just hunting down the x64-compliant drivers, tho most are still in beta), but for the most part it runs smoother than any other windows I have used.
Only other complaint is that Oblivion apparently hates x64 for some reason, it likes to randomly crash when loading new areas or changing lighting dramatically. I'd say if you have the technology to run it, at least give it a try! (64-bit processors, mine is an AMD 64 X2 4400+ Dual Core) |

just wait for VISTA, it will give the full potential of the 64 bit processor!!
For the games like Oblivion, they just were not made for 64 bit systems so they freak out now and then. VISTA will have a simulator-like ability to run all other games as well as the new games/programs designed for the 64 bit systems!! Last edited by Thibadeaux; 07-13-2006 at 10:32 PM. |

Yes it will be released in January/February.....and it sucks that DirectX 10 is exclusive to Vista OS.....in other words if you want to use next gen DirectX 10 video cards, you have to use Vista and judging by previous OS versions, it will take about a year after intial release of Vista before they release "SOLID" version of it.
Sweet thing is tho, it will automatically utilize dual core CPUs for gaming (when right now game itself would have to be designed to use dual core CPUs). I know I will be among first ones to switch to Vista, unfortunatelly, simply because of DX10.
