How to build a PC

Ok so seems like we have some members that don't know how to build a pc, it's pretty much like legos, but since I'm horrible at explaining, here's a very detailed link from IGN, just ignore their choices for hardware since it's an old a rticle.

http://gear.ign.com/articles/579/579077p1.html

and another very useful link with more pics
http://www.waterwheel.com/Build_A_PC..._PC_Step_1.htm

Of course, we're all here to help each other, so any questions, no matter how small or silly it might be, just ask, and when the time comes, we can help as well via vent on doing it step by step if needed

Also keep in mind that there are many places in the net to buy parts, so always post the links of the parts you plan to buy so we all review them and point any incompatibilities or price debates.

I started my own shop, had it for a year, moved, now my buddy runs it and I consult.

So if anyone needs any help or suggestions, PM me or whatever.

Same, built computers for "beer money" while at college, so feel free to contact me if ya need anything.

A few suggestions:

1) Double check to make sure the following are corect (when I'm tired I forget the first every once in awhile
-RAM is the same DDR as MB
-Power Supply is over 600watts
-CPU and MB are made for each other (AMD/Intel)
- Heatsink (if aftermarket) can fit on MB

2) Make a list prior to build of every step

3) Organize the work area the more organization the better

4) If you live in a dry climate; make sure you have a way to release static electricity on something besides the computer parts... yeah...

I've always heard that anything over 400 watts in a power supply is simply excessive, 400 is "all you're realistically gonna need"

I usually get a 450 to 500. If you run dual vid cards or Quad core chip or going to mod the box out and have alot of lights and all that, 600 plus is what you want. Just in case type of deal.

yauzah. Nice. i like the fact that it's fair simple to build ye machine. the harder part for me was to pick the right parts. What is needed and what is not.
