I've managed to net $1200 from my summer job so far
So I've been looking into computers around $1600-$2000 and the best one I've found is a desktop with specs as follows for around $1900.
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6700 (4MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1066 FSB) RAM: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 DIMMs Memory: 160GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (10,000RPM) w/DataBurst Cache Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX 768 MB Physics Accelerator: AGEIA® PhysX® physics accelerator Sound Card: Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ XtremeMusic (D) Sound Card Could someone make any suggestions for better options or where I could get something like this or better for under $2000? This is just the desktop and I built it on dell.com, it was a dimension desktop which now seems to have been taken off the site. (probably temporary, due to lack of inventory) Last edited by Mincemeat; 08-01-2007 at 12:34 AM. |

well, I suppose maybe the options i chose are a bit excessive, if I took out the physics accelerator and sound card, it'd be $250 less, but I really want the best computer for under $2000, so I'd like to know if 4gb RAM would be more neccesary than the sound card and physics accelerator.
As a side note, I'd like to add that I chose the very highest options, the lowest option was a 216MB graphics card, 1.8GHz processor, and 1GB of RAM at $700-$800ish. Last edited by Mincemeat; 08-01-2007 at 12:43 AM. |

also, it sort of depends on how easy it is to build myself one. I mean I really have no experience in that sort of thing since I'm only 16.
edit - Although I have been working 35 hrs a week, so I guess I am at least somewhat of a hard worker and may be able to build one with the $1200 I already have. Last edited by Mincemeat; 08-01-2007 at 12:38 AM. |

Personally I'm getting charged 100$ for installation..it's not pricey..but You could get a rediculous computer for 2grand if you pay for the parts seperately

This actually does look better than the one I'd get for $1900, but I just need to know if you included a CD ROM drive in there, and if not maybe estimate the price for one. (I kinda need a CD drive to put the WAR discs in.) I think this list will help immensely since I can also get parts locally and compare them to these prices, may be able to drop price by enough to get essentially the same computer with the $1200 I already have, maybe less.
