Another Help me build a PC thread.
Hey there all,
I have seen numberous posts in this forum so far and the feedback is great. I am also interested in building a new PC, with a budget of $1500. My current setup is almost 3 years old: MB: ASUS A8N-SLI, NF4-SLI, PCI-E16 w/Audio, GLAN, SRAID, SLI 1394 CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 1000MHz FSB, 512KB, 2.2GHz Memory: PC-3200 512MB DDR / 400MHz (have 2g at the moment) HD: SATA: Western Digital 250GB, 7200RPM, Serial ATA, w/ 8MB Cache G-Card: eVGA GeForce 7800GT CO PCI-E SLI, 256MB DDR3 VIVO HDTV-out 2 DVI OS: Microsoft XP Pro PS: Thermaltake Dual Fan 480 Watts XP I like the: *-NZXT Nemesis Elite Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case goes for $110 or the Antec Nine for roughly the same price. Was wondering if I could salvage any of the old parts, and combine it with new parts, and built a good stable system or to just setup a whole new one entirely. I was looking for a MB that could support at least 4gb to upgrade evetually to 8gb in ram. And a setup to run the Vista 64 Ultimate. Don't know whether I should go to a duo core or quad..any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Let's see what I can pull for $1400...
NZXT Nemesis Elite Black (Requested) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146030 $109.99 OCZ GameXStream http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341002 $129.99 (-$25 rebate) AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Windsor 2.8GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103771 $139.99 GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-DS4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128075 $159.99 G.SKILL 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 (2x) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231121 $99.98 Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100007 $5.99 Thinking that you will want to use the on-board sound, use your current HD, your DVD's, Video card and WinXP. The reason I added 4gigs of RAM is for your XP to use it's max allowed (3.7gig or so). With those parts you are fully upgradable for the future, the motherboard being AM2+ can take the new Phenoms, but they are the first stage, never smart to buy the first stage of anything, so for future models. If you upgrade to Vista64 to use 4gigs of RAM and more the motherboard can handle 16Gig. Without knowing where you live, the grand Total = $645.93 without S&H and depending on where you live, without Tax. Now if you want to replace/add other parts: Creative Sound Blaster SB0570 Audigy SE 7.1 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102002 $29.99 SAMSUNG Black 20X DVD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151154 $29.99 Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD4000KD 400GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144423 $79.99 EVGA 512-P3-N841-A3 GeForce 8800GTS (G92) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130312 $349.99 (-$20 rebate) Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116204 $111.49 SONY Black 1.44MB 3.5" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16821103116 $7.99 Ok so in the additions you have a sound card, always better than on-board, a DvD with Dual Layer burning, you'll need DVD DL media for it to burn on both sides (8gigs!), the second HD would be your gaming HD, leaving your current one only for Windows and programs. The Video card of course the latest atm, a G92 should run everything you want and more for the next two years and brings Crysis free (or so it says). Vista 64 so you can use those 4 gigs of RAM and more later on, a tad annoying atm with the new video drivers, but you'll get used to it And well the floppy drive, in contrast to what most say, it's not a dead technology and might come in handy. With everything from before + the additions the total is $1255.37 without S&H or Tax. Also keep in mind to use drivers from their web sites, most of the drivers included with the hardware is usually obsolete.

Yeah, I know; it's been a while since I last responded to anything. Work/life is killer sometimes. But here is a response nonetheless. I finally finished building a nice small rig, brand smacking new.
Case: Antec 9Hundred PS: Antec TPQ-850 850W MB: Asus P5E Deluxe LGA 775 Intel x48 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.166GHz Graphic: Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 512 MB Memo: G.Skill 4GB (2x2) DDR2 SDRAM 1066 HD: Samsung Spinpoint F1 750gb OS: Microsoft Vista 64bit So I was checking out the forums again and I stumbled across a post saying that I was not accepted as a member, and that recruitment has been closed. Well, hmm. I guess I didn't reply to the certain required amount of posts that was needed to become a member. Woe to me. I hope you all the best, and best of luck in game. Maybe I'll see you there. |
